I've never taken it before. I'm not nervous, but what are some things I should avoid?

i have a friend from PA (in philly) and that is where she took her driving test. she told me all she did was parallel parking. she hot a cone or whatever when attempting and she automatically failed. i told her that in california they made me drive around the city, pull off to the side of road and reverse in a straight line, then get back on the road and return to the DMV to park. i didn't do parallel parking. i didn't take my test in LA or anything (the city) like that, though. she was all surprised at all the work i had to do.

make sure to use your signals and always come to a full stop at stop signs, and count 3 seconds in your head before you go. make sure to look both ways before you start driving, too. make sure to check your mirrors, but not too much. she is going to be looking at you while you drive. there is usually a place that they like to take the driver, a pass or fail type of scenario (that was the case for me at least). she brought me to a two way stop sign, with speeding cars going left and right. i crept up slowly until it was clear. she was way up in the front to make sure i didn't kill us lol. cars were going left and right fast.

oh and she took me to a school area. make sure to slow the fuck down in the school area. every tester is different and one might take off points if you are going the speed you're allowed to go if there are no children present. just drive as if there are children present.

Have a drink before the test it will calm your nerves.

Offer a sip to the evaluator. It is just plain polite and will score you points on the test.

Well it's summer so that means no school zones, but otherwise it's 20 mph here in them.

I know tests are harder in different places, so if I fail this one I might drive somewhere where there's a 90% success rate. I don't feel like taking the test more than once.

I failed the written test three times. It had bogus questions like "what kind of vehicle does not have to stop at a railroad?" and the answer is a house home.

I'm not drinking anything tonight specifically for this test. (tomorrow)

Just make sure you can park. Parallel and Perpendicular.

I practiced backing around a corner, but I doubt they'll have you do that.

Oh crap I have no time to do that and I totally forget how to parallel park. Guess I'm looking at some tutorials.

I remember parallel parking for the first time and was surprised it was nothing like in video games. I guess in video games you kind of just slam into things without caring.

Good luck!

I took it in Southern CA, and it took me till my 3rd try to pass. DMV people are picky and rude.

I'm not sure how tests in your area are or how strict your examiner will be but generally

-Keep both hands on the wheel at 3 and 9 o clock
-Always use turn signals (left turns, right turns, lane changes, going towards the curb, pulling away from the curb, before starting a parallel park)
-Check your mirrors every once in a while
-Come to a complete stop at every stop sign. Make sure you stop before the sign. Wait 3 seconds and look both/all ways before accelerating. If it's a two-way sign, stop before the sign, then creep up to make sure the coast is clear.
-Always look backwards when reversing. If you have a reversing camera in your car, I suggest pretending it doesn't exist
-When you're told to parallel park, quickly examine the car you'll be parking behind, such as the size of it, how far it is from the curb, if the car is fully straight or not, etc. and adjust accordingly when parking
-The test is not over until you come to a complete stop at the testing site, so make sure you don't get tripped up by any silly mistakes at the very end

That's about all I can think of for now, I just got my license two weeks ago after failing it once last month. Good luck!
