Their own incompetence means I have to come back a second time.

Going to a new dentist, appointment at 1030 (this was yesterday). They said the appointment for a new patient could take 1hr-1.5hrs, so I figured that'd be almost 2 hours gone from work and I figure that's too long to just disappear for. So I decided to take the morning off work so I could sleep in a bit and take my time getting there, then show up after lunch.

They said get there around 10 mins early to fill out new patient paperwork. I got there at 1015, so 15 mins early. Got started on the paperwork right away and finished in 6-7 mins.

Didn't end up getting called back for my turn until around 1050 or so. Which is fine, I really wasn't in any particular rush to get back to work -- boss knew I was out, so it's not like he would care if I walked in at 1PM instead of 12.

So we buzz through the X-rays, scanning, and whatever else they do for new patients. Then the dentist herself came in and did her thing. At this point, it's around 11:25, and I haven't even had the actual cleaning yet. Which, again, for my sake, is fine. I don't care if I'm late to work. But the hygienist said there was another appointment at noon, and since the cleaning takes upwards of an hour, it would cut into the next appointment. So, rather than just continuing and running behind for ~25 mins for the rest of the day, they decide it's me who gets hosed so they can keep their schedule.

So now I have to go back today at 5 for the cleaning. What a goddamn waste of time. I feel like David Dao - involuntarily getting screwed myself just so a few other people can keep their schedules.

Dentists are alot like mechanics. It's difficult to find one that you can trust to do exactly what you need. Otherwise they always find somethingthat they can work on.

I think I would have just told them no. You waited 20 minutes after your appointment to be seen. The person after you can wait too.

It's no different than a regular doctors office. Lord knows if I have an appointment with the doctor at 10, I don't actually expect to be seen at 10.
