My brother used to live in Redmond and I think he enjoyed it. Not sure if you're specifically looking for somewhere in Seattle proper, but if your new job is in the downtown area, then I don't recommend commuting. Traffic looked pretty bad when I was up there several years ago, but it was a while ago so maybe it's not as bad as I remember.

My new job is directly in down town. I'm kind of considering the green lake area. an apartment is only around 2k a month

Just take the bus and read. Or wait 10 year for the light rail expansion. My point is it's not that bad if you avoid driving and take public transportation.

Ballard.

Ballard is pretty nice. What's your price point?

It depends on where you work, how much you make, etc

Funny you say that, we looked at a house to rent in ballard earlier today. We are trying to get under 2K a month, but could probably go for 2.5k a month.

Fremont and capitol Hill are a little on the pricey side from what i've seen. We love green lake though. We've actually walked around the lake several times now!

Yeah most places in Seattle are pricey. If you don't mind commuting you could check out Everett, Mill Creek and Bothell.

Eh, i don't really want to be that far out from work. The green lake to bitter lake area has that bus that goes down 99 and is reasonably affordable. I'm tired of long commutes from my last job, where i spent close to 3 hours on the road every day.

Yeah and commuting there is pretty terrible so I don't blame ya. Wish I could have been more help but like I said I only ever lived up north so I don't know too much about the neighborhoods in or around the city too much.

Check the bus lines as well, you can follow them out to see areas you can easily commute to work from.

If you don't mind a drive there are places you can rent that are not that far away for much cheaper.

You didn't mention (or I don't see) how large of a place you want? That can make a big difference.

I live in Olympia WA (too far for you to commute), but rent here for a 1 bedroom starts at about $800.

If I decide to rent out my place again, I'll rent out the upstairs only (I'll live downstairs). My upstairs has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, pantry and double garage. I'll probably ask $1600 for it (mainly due to the amazing view of the sound out the living room and main bedroom windows...thats worth an extra $200 right there).

You could probably get a 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment for around $1400 otherwise around here.

While you can't commute to Seattle from Olympia, Tacoma is alot closer and still pretty cheap and other areas near seattle are as well.

So yeah, what size/how many bedrooms are you looking for?

Ugh, yeah I hate long commutes, although, again, you can look straight down bus lines, so you don't really have to commute (just hop on a bus). Still avoiding that is golden, and worth the extra money usually. I used to commute 2 hours each way, god I hated that (rush hour traffic is hell).

I refuse to commute anymore, no matter what job I do, it's gonna be within 15 minutes of where I live.

Don't move to Everett whatever you do. It's a heroin/meth den.

Marine View Dr. is nice, but the rest is awful.

Source: Grew up 5 minutes north of Everett.

It would also take him 2 hours to get to work in the city. Everett is way the fuck out there.
