Do you think privilege played a role in their easy sentencing?

A couple of 19 y/o Preppy Jerks from Ohio were sentenced only to 37 Days in JAIL and have to write a 5-page BOOK REPORT after SHOOTING a Man in the FACE!!

19 y/o Jonas Rohr and Kyle Bodager were sentenced by Judge Frank Forchione to read a book about WW2 or the Vietnam War and write a 300 word report on it as their PUNISHMENT for almost Killing a Man!!

The jerks and another juvenile were shooting targets in Township when they struck Merle Webb who was mowing his lawn with a stray bullet last fall

Merle was hit in the face but survived as he told the teen sin court that he was celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary and that the injury left him with lost teeth, nerve pain, scarred tongue and a nasty sinus infection. He said "If it weren't for 2 inches and the grace of God, you'd be both looking at a manslaughter charge"

They both plead guilty to discharging a firearm as one received only 7 Days in Jail while the other got 30 Days.

After completion they will perform 200 hours of community service at the Ohio Veteran's Memorial Park

They will also have 3 years of community control and participation in the intensive supervision program as the judge said these 2 are GOOD KIDS who didn't intend to hurt anyone and said their lives don't need to be ruined over this..plus he said that their PRISONS ARE FULL so he wanted them to do something "nice" on July 4th that gives these young men a better judgement.

Do you think privilege played a role in this sentencing?.

I agree with both poll options.

Well, apart from the mangled idiom "throw a book at them".

I am fairly neutral when it comes to gun rights but when people do dumbarse mistake like this, I say deny them any gun rights for X years or for the rest of their lives. Firearms are not something to be taken lightly and yet how many people each year die or are injured from poor safety habits?

It's kinda like getting a DUI. Driving a two ton vehicle is something everyone should take seriously and if said driver has shown he/she is not capable of that, their license is revoked. Shouldn't the same be done for something like firearms where one should take them seriously?

I don't disagree with you, but if this really happened, something like half of the driving population would lose their licences if you counted stuff like general distracted driving and speeding/reckless driving. People drive everyday without any ill effects for their stupid behavior so I guess they just lose any sense of gravity related to the act.

Which I'll say is fine to some degree. Its when something bad happens that I feel an appropriate punishment is needed. If its driving related, suspend or revoke their license. If its firearm related, suspend or revoke their gun license.

I know owning a gun is seen as a right whereas driving is seen as a privilege. But just like with some actions in this country, act stupid enough times and your rights will also be revoked.
