Raiden has challenged Id to Mortal Kombat! Location of the fight: Etrenank - The capital city of Solaris, a flying, high-tech city. All citizens and automated defense systems have been removed. Attackers will start at the third-class block's entrance. Defenders will start within Krelian's laboratory, in the monomolecular treatment room. The entire terrain and every mercenary will start the match ablaze. Which side will win?

Guidelines

- The fight will occur in real-time (like an FMV sequence). Gameplay mechanics are less important than how the characters would function in a real-time environment.
- The members of each team are ideal teammates capable of a pre-selected plan of battle.
- "Broken" refers to a lot of things, including insta-death, auto-effects, a variety of status effects (e.g., Imp, Silence, Stop, *not* Poison), and revival. Unless stated otherwise, nobody has them, though do use your own discretion.
- There may be SPOILERS from all of the games the characters are from.

Rules for Voting

- Bold your votes (using bold HTML tags).
- You do not need to require justification for your vote, though the admins reserve the right to disqualify votes in the advent of obvious alt voting and other similar scenarios.
- Leaders cannot vote for their own teams (and players from the same pool may not vote as well), but they are free to argue their case.

Raiden is as seen in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance with access to all of his weapons (save the Fox Blade) and upgrades available in that game. He doesn't require Zandatsu to recover. He has access to roughly one full bar of energy for Blade Mode and Ripper Mode. He has no mysterious lightning powers here, either.

Id is as he appears in Xenogears, with access to all of Fei's deathblows and chi. His other personalities cannot surface or influence him, and he cannot summon any Gears.

But I know the Armstrong fight that is always posted for Armstrong is a good showing and all these metal gears look pretty impressive to take on so that should at the very least par up with the things id faces

They're tanky. They stop drop and roll and the fire is out. Raiden is basically a neutral as a result of the fire as either his pain suppressors will allow him to ignore any burns, or he REVELS in PAIN. Id can yeah, heal the damage-- though maybe not the burns Pokemon tells us that Burn is a status ailment.

The flame matters nothing to this fight, bar some snarking about it.

Raiden's sword isn't invulnerable and I feel that his weaponry would get snapped and broken early on in the fight rather than later. Raiden with fists is a huge downgrade to his combat ability, in my opinion.

Raiden I think has the edge overall. Nothing too complicated just think in a straight up 1v1 he's the stronger fighter and Id doesn't have the intangibles to be humored to win here.

Regardless, Raiden. Id is beastmode, but Raiden is even more beastly. I feel like if Id played lame and used his reach he might be able to win, but it just ain't his personality. Raiden clinches.

As explained by MGR, the quality of a blade's make enhances its power when turned into an HF blade. A basic blade like Raiden uses for most of MGR is on one level, the Murasama is on a different one. It's enhanced in much the same way Raiden is.

Yes, you're right.

But what about it? What makes it so invulnerable that Id of all people can't break it? In the end it is still a sword made of conventional materials and despite it's HF treatment, it is still exactly that. It's not got any super technowizard bullshitium upgrades or materials, it's not made of super nanofiber materials, it's not magical and it's certainly not possessed by the spirit of solid snake.

So why can't Id break it? Why can't Id the person who with his own fists breaks Mecha, not break a HF blade?

Armstrong couldn't, and he's much stronger than Id. Id punches mechs. Armstrong throws em and explodes em.

0. It was more to do with 'has no sord' because his usual one got broken. Notably Armstrong couldn't do the same to the Murasama.

High heat generally causes significant issues to mechanical equipment. Such as overheating, melting, malfunctions, etc. Now surviving an explosion is cool and all but that isnt the sustained heat we are looking at here.

Smoke from the flames has to be suffocating. That might help raiden.

Water based moves to put out fire may help.
