Like seriously the guy is just wiping paint on average polaroids of hot guys/drag queens.

And selling for prices like 125!!!

It's not just this guy either, most artists these days are actually pretentious assholes who half ass their "craft" and call it art.

Whatever happened to, yknow, actual art?

That's the thing, the concept of "art" varies between different people. One man's trash is another man's treasure so to speak. There is no right or wrong answer cause we have our own ideas of what is "art".

Yeah, my idea of good art is a life-like painting of a nature scene. Another person's idea could be a 5-year-old's abstract drawing.

From what I've noticed:

People are more concerned with the story behind the art piece/of the artist rather than the art itself. Same goes for things like movies, music, etc.

There is still good art, but it won't be as popular among the trendies if it doesn't have a kick ass story behind it.

Most "scenes" in my area are a bunch of people with their heads up their asses giving each other more reasons to stick it up further and further.

I agree the meaning behind art should be important but it should also be visually apparent in paintings and sculptures, photographs, etc.

I can't read the artist's mind so if I don't "get it" then it's because it's a bad piece of art

This. Fine art/sculpture in particular is extremely subjective. Most of the time having a recognizable name is MUCH more important than the quality of the work itself.

Well said. It's difficult to appreciate what an artist have created if we don't know the meaning behind it. Granted part of the fun sometimes is trying to interpret what the artist was trying to convey.
