Board 8 > Strife Plays Final Fantasy VIII [Pick My Main Party] *Spoilers

Well, Final Fantasies I and VII are in the books. The dice roll gave me VIII this time, a game I am VERY opinionated about thanks to certain aspects. I haven't played it in a few years, but I recall not hating it near as much as I used to. Almost like a bell curve. Didn't hate it as a kid, hated it in my 20s, and now it's back to "I don't hate it...much." Anyway, unlike most games, there's not a whole lot of naming changes, party manipulation, or whatever. This is a barebones "pick my party" setup.

1. Top two vote getters stay in the party as much as possible throughout the game.
2. When things split (like the Missile Base), the top two vote getters go with Squall. If Selphie is one, the next highest goes.
3. Feel free to vote on weird shit within posts, like if I do the Slow Dance or Irish Jig, what I name the GFs or Angelo, etc. Just fun stuff to keep engaged.
4. Encounter None will be on almost always once I get it (unless I'm really bored).
5. **** Malboro...**** him so badly.
6. Black Bar any spoilers (cause GameFAQs is like that).

Game should start a little later. I have some studying to do, so this will be a way to tab votes for a bit.

All right. I made it past the Dollet Mission. I don't think the game does quite as well as FFVII does at jumping right into the action, but this part of the game is one of the quickest and most eventful. What I wish to know about the Vita is how to make the triggers stop fucking around. Because it only has L1 and R1, it always seems to go on the fritz. It doesn't respond, and only intermittently does what I want. Because it wouldn't let me run from the motherfucking tank, I had to reconfigure the controls to actually let me do it. Now it fucks up with the GF selection screen, moving from character to character without my input.

Screwed either way...stupid price to pay for portability. Anyway, more tomorrow.

The older I get, the more poignant the secret area scene gets, for many reasons. And yes, Quistis is very underappreciated. Probably because that was her last story relevant plot point.

Anyway, I figured out the L2/R2 thing. It's at the tip top edges of the back touchpad. Problem solved after three games. More later.

So, um I got Diablos in the craziest way possible. I wanted to play it safe, since I hadn’t built my GFs and stuff. So I wanted to use them as shields to take damage while Selphie threw out Full-cures. My second plan of drawcasting Demi wasn't working at all, stingy bastard. My piddly damage approach worked until he started physically attacking. Ifrit went down, then Squall, then Selphie. Zell was all alone at 100 HP. Duel for 5 seconds, Gravija, 25-30 HP, 2 Duel in a row for 4 seconds, Gravija, 10 HP, Duel again for 4 seconds, and then ANOTHER Gravija. Zell was sitting at 3 HP. Duel was around for 11 fucking seconds. After a few crits in the combo, I hit the end of the chain. Diablos went down…holy fucking god.

Not much in this run. Just Encounter Half and junctioning Water to Zell and Squall for some much needed strength. Progress later, I hope.

I am not. I actually spent a week longer getting through VII than I wanted. Up until X (which is about 1/3 longer than PS1 titles), I can usually knock one of these out in a week. Because of grad school stuff, I have to manage my time.

Quistis now has some extra HP with which to handle fights. Or I should say whichever of the bumbling idiots takes her stuff for the dream sequence. SCAVENGER HUNT! Cool. it makes sense the big guy has the most HP.

Made it through that mission unscathed. I junctioned Curaga to Zell's HP, though he doesn't have as much as Quistis right now. Still enough to plow through Duels whenever he needs to. Squall will have to settle for more Vitality. Galbadia Garden next time.

Sacred wasn't tough at all, but add Minotaur and all that crazy healing to the mix (with battle speed cranked up cause I hate slow fights) and it's almost insufferable. Even with Quistis at high HP, I lost. I gotta grind some spells or new GF skills to handle this mess. I haven't grinded all game, so whatever. Now's a perfect time.

Have you tried casting float on the brothers? It removes their auto heal from being on the ground.

I did both that and protect on the party. The problem was my Life users got killed before I could revive them. With Minotaur there, he just kept using Mover to keep knocking them back down. It's probably be fine now that I have more spells per party member. I'll attempt it after studying.

I really liked Irvine as a character concept but I feel like they dropped the ball here. I think that the ice cold laid back dude is just an all around better character and would have complimented the cast better
