28 y/o Whacko, Brendt Christensen from Illinois who apparently has a KIDNAPPING FETISH is charged with kidnapping a visitor scholar at the University of Illinois, who is now believed to be Dead after she went missing 3 weeks ago!!

26 y/o Yingying Zhang was last seen getting into a black Saturn Astra on June 9th, just weeks after she arrived at the Urbana-Champaign campus from China to study agriculture studies

The FBI found the matching car and agents overheard him talking about kidnapping Zhang and holding her against her will while he was under surveillance

They got his cell phone and found that he visited threads titled "Abduction 101" and "perfect abduction fantasy" and "planning a kidnapping" on a FETISH WEBSITE!!

Brendt was a PhD candidate at the university where he studied condensed matter physics as it's unclear if he knew Yingying before she disappeared

Brendt admitted that he gave an "distressed asian female" a ride home but said she panicked when he made the wrong turn and let her out..

He was placed under continuous surveillance and was captured on recording on June 29th explaining how he took her to his apartment and held her against her will.

Based on his comments and facts uncovered during the investigation, it is now believed Yingying is no longer alive..

When asked where her body may be, a spokesman for the FBI declined to comment.

Zhang said she was going to sign an apartment lease on June 9th and texted the building property manager at 130pm stating she was going to be 10 minutes late as she got on a city bus and got off at 152pm, one mile from the building.

She tried to flag down another bus minutes later but it drove past her without stopping so she walked 4 blocks away and stood under a tree according to surveillance video.

Brendt was then seen driving past her before looping around the block and pulling over. Zhang then approached the car and spoke to the driver before going in.

The text between the property manager and Zhang's phone went unanswered and then she was reported missing by professors later that night.

The FBI offered a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Brendt's suspicious car was parked outside his apartment as the FBI questioned him but he couldn't "recall" what he was doing that day when Zheng disappeared...when police looked at his car and confirmed it was the one on video, they interviewed him again and then he admitted to picking up an asian woman.

5600 Chinese students are enrolled at the University with 300,000 students in the US overall. Some parents in China wondered if her disappearance meant it wasn't safe to send their children to the United States anymore..

Zhang graduated last year with a masters in environmental engineering from one of China's elite schools and was doing research on crop photosynthesis. She also played the guitar and sang in a band called "Cute Horse. Her boyfriend also said his gf was a cautious person and wouldn't normally get into a car with a stranger unless forced..

Which would be good for American students, given how much wealthy Chinese parents drive up land values by buying/renting choice areas for their kids. Of course, that's keeping in mind that it's practically illegal for non-Chinese citizens to buy land in China (also true to some extent of many other nations where you'd have to set up a trust with local lawyers rather than directly owning it). because the US generally gets killed on everything in terms of unilateral deals.

Otherwise it'll just spawn another wave of nationalistic sentiment in China, which has been a repeated issue where just random white people are highlighted in their "You can't trust your daughters with foreign men!" articles.
