He will move up to third place in the rankings and between now and the end of the season he has no points to defend due to his injury last season so unless someone wins the US Open and a bunch of Masters it's doable IMO.

I think it's pretty easy to understand why someone wouldn't like a stomping. It's not dramatic, if Federer had won in a 5-setter it'd be the same thing just way more exciting. Way more memorable. Anything "way more" is probably nothing but a good thing.

I mean it's cool he didn't drop a set too, that's damn impressive. But a 5-set nail biter would be much better.

a stomping is fine if the other guy is playing well. cilic clearly wasn't performing up to his potential after those first few games. federer honestly wasn't even playing that well either, cilic was just gone.

Cilic says he had a blister even back in his semifinal match, so that would explain it. But that shouldn't be held against Federer.

From a historical standpoint obvs it's not terrible.

But a 3-set flush with one player bawling like a baby is not a great match.

I'd say it's warranted to be called terrible.

But there were loads of other rounds for that. I found it kind of sad to see Cilic so obviously out of the game. This was not an exhibition for Federer in any way. It was Federer playing fairly well and Cilic completely out of the game.
