What's that like? What's the best way to even get started, for that matter?

I had to sell my copies of heart gold and soul silver when the prices got to over $60 just for the cart

Should have invested more when I bought my copies

Don't do that. Gold/silver sellers are just preying upon people's fears. Buy mutual funds and bonds.

Fair enough.

Still, I feel at the very least an ounce or two is a decent investment. Yes there's dips and rises, but overall it looks like a generally upward climbing trend for both metals.

Basically you are only going to make money buying when things are going great economically and then liquidating when the economy tanks again. Of course you will make a lot more money investing in the index buying at the bottom and liquidating at the top

Yeah.

And I mean, I'm not aiming to make a business of it. Obviously I have to be smart about it and not give into "buy now" schemes or impulses.

Kinda why I made the topic in the first place. Get opinions before getting really serious about it.

Wouldn't mind a 10 once bar of silver though. Way cheaper. Not a huge gain or profit potential, but it doesn't strike me as a huge loss risk either.

I inherited a bunch of gold and silver coins from my godfather back in the 90s and that's kinda how I got started. Now I just go through a precious metals guy I know. Basically, I give him cash, he gives me gold/silver tokens at value and that goes into part of my savings. I keep most of my precious metals in lock boxes or in my safe. I keep most of it off the books

I've been considering picking up the 5oz America the Beautiful bullion coins. but so many of them were minted when silver was high that price memory has them well over spot.
