I've heard this before, like supposedly every store is rolling in the dough and they make a lot on each item they sell. I think they really don't make that much on each item they sell and supposedly the profit margin is much smaller on grocery stuff. I think walmart might have some of the most lax return policies in the retail world too, right up there with costco.

how old are you?

I'm old enough to know, off the cuff, the fundamentals of how a retail business works, and what financial statements are.

Used to work at Walmart. Those handheld devices they use to scan stuff shiws the percentage of markup. Some items would be over 100%, while some would actually be a mark down. The idea is to get people in the store to buy the discounted items with the hopes that they also buy the items that are marked up so that you end up with a net profit.

Wal-Mart is publicly traded, they'd have to outright lie to hide money.

From their 2017 financials, they have a profit margin of 24.9% on almost 500 billion of total revenue and reported $21b in "Free cash flow" which comes from net cash provided in operating minus payments for property.
