While interviewing for a marketing position, I was asked how active I was on social media. I talked about how I had a small following on youtube and as a result, twitter.

I got the job.

Did you tell the interviewer to make sure he hits that subscribe/thumbs up button if he likes your content?

I think we've gotten to the point where it's more understandable why people would be annoyed by social media and avoid it.

I use gmail messenger to keep in touch with people. I'd just say that if it ever came up.

I've never asked anyone if they use it in an interview but absolutely one of the things people do when considering candidates for job roles is look them up on social media.

Girl might ace an interview but if her facebook is full of pics of her in her underwear drunk at parties and rants about how she hates Jewish people, you don't want her representing your company.
