"Waikiki resident Jen Tema holds her breath as she jogs past the Diamond Head lookouts because most days the stench from the homeless encampments is overwhelming.

“We’re at the beginning of the toilet,” Tema said on a recent Friday as she passed by a garbage pile that spilled over the oceanside cliffs like a waterfall. “When it’s dead wind, you can barely walk by it. It’s a shame because this is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

She quit jogging at night because she didn’t feel safe due to the security risks and health hazards that have surfaced since the neighborhood’s homeless residents began monopolizing public spaces. Her son doesn’t surf at the lookouts because homeless campers dump buckets of feces into the water there. Her kids wear shoes instead of slippers to the parks to avoid stepping on discarded drug needles and used condoms."

Sounds heartless but fuck anyone who leaves garbage piles, used comdoms and drug needles lying around and dumps literal fucking shit in the water. Also that stench sounds horrible.

They already do. A good chunk of the homeless in Hawaii are homeless from the mainland who buy one way tickets because of the climate and the fact that all the beaches are public property.

Well, if there's a good place to be homeless it's Hawaii. It's probably becoming quite problematic though if people fly out there with no intent to leave. There's only so much habitable space.

Depending on location, housing them actually is the cheapest solution. Obviously cheaply created houses, but still.

Here's the thing...

Hawaii is one of the most expensive places in America, and we have the highest homeless rate per capita. They're already building even more homeless shelters here, but the problem is that a lot of people don't want to use them. And also other states dump their hobos here too...

Since tourism is such a big part of Hawaii's economy, we can't afford to let the homeless problem get any bigger. People won't want to visit no matter how nice the beaches are if they have hobos panhandling every 10 feet and urinating on the sidewalk. And sadly, in the big tourist spots like Ala Moana and Waikiki, that's actually the case.

So I mean they're tried other options, but nothing worked. The hot Asian chicks here are my favorite thing about living in Hawaii and if the hobos scare them away then I'm gonna move far away from this overpriced island :<
