Buying a gun the store sold (in an open carry state) and shot on sight...shocked the officer will get off for murdering him. Total shocker

This is my reading of it also. We spent a lot of time discussing this, and the intel the cops had was that this was an active shooter situation. "Active shooter" basically means kill-on-sight unless the guy is actively surrendering, and this is specifically how cops are trained. That's never a description that should be given out without certainty, and the flaw here was shitty information from the dispatcher. That was a similar problem to what happened in the Tamir Rice incident.

So they get a call of an "active shooter" in a walmart, arrive and see no panic, walk in and see no panic, find a guy with a gun that the store sells and shoot him on sight....you can go ahead and say the 911 caller is MORE at fault...I'm putting more blame on the trained professionals here....

I worked retail too and we didn't make up tags for items that were open because the box for the original is probably floating around the store somewhere and 99% of the time someone walked around with an item out of the box, they were trying to steal it. Usually we would just confiscate the item unless they brought the box up themselves and put the item in the loss bin

There is plenty of blame to go around. None of which is an excuse for the cops actions. Enter a place that is calm and probably more shocked by their presence. Shoot a man on sight with even giving him a second to react. Imagine being that guy. Normal day. Shopping. No panic in the store at all. All of a sudden you see a group of cops with guns drawn and are shot instantly.

Walmart fucked up here as well. I've bought a gun from Walmart. At no time did they let me hold the gun until I was out the front doors. An associate was holding it throughout the entire transaction and walked with me through the store and into the parking lot

Special prosecutor Mark Piepmeier stressed on Wednesday that the responding police officers were led to understand that Crawford was an active threat. One even called back to the dispatcher to check that the 911 caller said Crawford was pointing the rifle at people

they probably though it was normal to not seee people in panic because the dispatcher told them he was pointing the rifle at people and hadnt shot yet

You know your argument is bad when it becomes "IMAGINE IT WAS YOOOOOOOU!" like a goosebumps novel.

Cop was told it was an active shooter, came and saw a dude with a gun. Going "Well you should always hesitate when dealing with active shooters in public and never trust your own or your comrades judgement." is weak and dangerous logic.

Going down your "imagine it was yooooooou!" theme, imagine you're a teacher at a school and some guy is massacring kids. The cops turn up and then just stand there gormlessly as the guy murders more kids in front of you and then shoots you in the gentials before he is stopped.

At what point do you accept "Imagine it was you!?" is not an argument

The dispatcher and the caller screwed the pooch more than the cop did
