To be fair, TC isn't completely wrong. In the US the push for Time Zones happened, because of Trains. They needed a uniform way to keep track of arrival and departure times as different cities had their own time.

Of course people were aware that time was different where you lived, it just wasn't a big deal until travel between those areas was more widespread.
