Talked to a couple of my co-workers earlier who are both Catholic and they both said they had to pay money to take confirmation classes. My parents forced me to take confirmation classes (at a lutheran church) but it was free. So basically catholics think you should have to pay money in order to take communion?

Lmao catholics

Lmao religion in general

Most religions take money from their parishioners. Some actually charge you, others guilt you into 'donating' your money or withhold good standing without donations. I grew up JW, and although they never actually charged you anything, you can sure as fuck bet that donating was the surest way to get standing in the congregation.

Donations are one thing because you can do it anonymously and can donate as much or as little as you want (guilt tripping aside)

Catholics literally make you pay to take confirmation classes, basically requiring you pay money to take communion. Thats fucked up. If Jesus existed he would probably be pretty pissed about that.

You're confusing 2 different things. First Communion happens around 10 years of age(if my memory serves), and Confirmation happens at the age of 13.

What does 'confirmed' mean here? What exactly are they paying for?

Absolutely not. The world is big and there are many churches, so maybe some are dumb enough to do that though.

If they need to build a new church why not just pray for it to be built instead of using money

I don't remember paying for Confirmation classes but I also went to a Catholic school where that stuff was part of the Religion course anyway.

I have no idea why I went through with Confirmation because I wasn't really religious to begin with.

Mormons are required to tithe 10% of their income.

I live in one of the highest concentrations of Mormons outside SLC, and a huge chuck of them are fucking loaded.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple hundred thousand dollars sitting in a safe in the biggest temple.

In my experience (my family is lutheran, not catholic) you take confirmation classes in order to be "confirmed" then once youre confirmed you can take communion. Seems that my catholic co-workers had the same experience.

Also catholics are christians. Any believer of Christ are christians.

Yeah Catholicism represents a lot of what's won't with Christianity still. I'm Lutheran like you, or church just lets people get confirmed and stuff, never asks anyone for a dime.

I grew up Catholic and I've never heard of them charging for things beyond ceremony fees in the actual church (baptism and marriage as far as I know) and that is mainly to cover basic costs and sometimes the choir gets donations for their involvement and priest gets a little spending money too. All the religious education stuff was free and was run by volunteers in the community. I assume that this is decided by the bishop of your local diocese if it does indeed vary by location.

I am no longer a Catholic but I was shoved pretty hard up the pope's ass until I was 18.

I grew up Catholic, and as I said in another post, we started taking communion years before Confirmation.

You are categorically wrong. Catholics are Christians. Not all Christians are Catholics, though. Catholicism is arguably the oldest form of Christianity. Any arguments to the contrary instantly dissolve into pathetic No True Scotsman fallacies. Every single academic and linguist will tell you that Catholicism is a branch of Christianity.
