That's technically true in a butterfly effect kinda sense since we would have all kinds of different presidents in that case. But that is a clear case of some dude looking for a new anti-Trump take and working backwards to the draft. No historical reasoning at all.

However my, historical, argument relies on the draft being banned for decades, the military adapting to a draft-free world, and then the draft coming back. That's the shock that would galvanize the people.

That's why all those stories about nukes ALMOST being fired were buried - they proved that the individual humans in charge or turning the 3-stage keys and actually firing the missiles, literally just won't. They would rather die. These are people specifically chosen for their dedication and obedience to the president too.

It's just too much responsibility for a sane human to take. It won't happen.

But that MASSIVELY undermines the president's supposed power to "kill 70 mil in 25 minutes". That threat is way too important to the facade of the president and global politics in general.

Heh, the one in Houston was a bizarre situation where Antifa put out hoax news stories that the city was going to tear one down, and in response, the right staged a pretty well attended and well behaved protest.

And all the local media was like "LOL ALT RIGHT GOT TROLLED BY A FAKE NEWS STORY THEY CAME OUT TO PROTEST EVEN THOUGH NOBODY WAS EVER GOING TO TEAR DOWN THE STATUE" which is technically correct but like, wow, you sure showed them, you "tricked" them into organizing a well attended rally that got a lot of public attention and led to no negative consequences. Great one there!
