I mean it's not normally something you'd ever worry about if you didn't actually do the development or QA for a game on a console, but compliance is a thing, and what we're talking about is essentially one of the textbook examples of it.

The thing at the end isn't really even that important and necessary to the game. It's nothing more than something that's a little bit neat.

It'd be like saying you couldn't port metal gear solid to a device without a controller because you won't get to see psycho mantis move the controller. Sure it's a little bit of a shame to miss out on but it's literally meaningless to the entire game as a whole

I mean there was a Windows port of MGS and they removed that dialogue plus the memory card stuff.

As an iOS developer, there is 100% loads of compliance rules with Apple, so I don't really see why Sony would be much different, other than maybe having less because they aren't Apple.

The thing about compliance is that literally 0 apps are completely compliant, on PS4 or iOS or whatever. It's all about "good enough". And if you're a super popular game that requires an exception, you WILL get it.

Maybe less likely so with Apple because they are far more robotic, but Sony is WAY more human about the console requirements.

The general idea behind compliance is to maintain a certain standard of quality to maintain the reputation of the brand it's on. Crashes in particular don't look good. Plus in extreme cases there's also a possibility of damage in theory, though probably less now that they run on actual OS's.

(Also to prevent shitty developers from using "it's not a bug, it's a feature!" as an excuse for everything.)
