Like most if not all songs that people play in mainstream platform and stuff.

-horrible repetitive lyrics usually glorifying sex and objectifying women, drug habit, etc.
-horrible repetitive instruments that dont have any layers, like 1 motifs repeated all over 5 minutes and repetitive drum rythm with barely any pattern than regular 4/4
-overusing autotune. Autotune can be good, but in most mainstream music it is just cover for lack of actual talent.

The only mainstream artist that has talent and famous in the last 5 years are probably lady gaga. Her music actually has depth and lots of layers and complexity, unlike these noise made for troglodytes.

In fact my co workers ia playing the radio with her phone and all the songs played want to make me puke.

I completely and utterly agree so much. I completely understand your pain. I now take a zero tolerance approach and turn normie music off whenever I have the power. I also tell people that they suck for listening to it.

Becuase they come up with much of it in boardrooms using well-studied, dissected past examples which are dewigned to appeal to a massive, diverse audience while being as catchy, if annoying, as possible.

there's good radio pop if you lower your expectations. i listen to both mainstream music and more obscure stuff. but i never group the two together because i know they'd never compare.

i'll rephrase that. mainstream music might as well be its own genre compared to everything else. you have to learn to enjoy it for what it's worth. catchy and stupid fun.

I feel like you guys are exaggerating. There are still some nice songs in the top 100. Even then, the singles from the albums aren't always the best ones. Just the catchy ones to get people interested.

So why mainstream audiences wants simple things, repetitive shit? Are most people honestly have this bland taste, and so simple minded that they are easily entertained by tracks that contain no substance and creativity at all?

Just compare songs from actual good artists like to name few i like to listen like chvrves, the chain gang, etc for electronic music, poets of the fall, umphrey mcgee, lupe fiasco, cunnilynguist, etc to stuff from justin biebier or katy perry or whatever shit they are called now.

The former's songs has a lot of depth, like complex instruments and layered melodies, beat that change as the song progress from chorus, bridge, etc, actual buildup and payoff in the songs, etc.

The latter have the same 4/4 beats, like one instrument playing in the background, forming a melody no more complex than a single motif repeated all over. They are catchy yes, but in a bad way. It is just not stimulating.

Know catchy good stuff? They are usually come from videogames, like mario bros theme, zelda theme, or like nost of the old school games to moderns. Thats how you do catchy music. They are simple, yet sometimes brilliant both in using hooks or arrangement. So hummable, whistle-able and comfy without being banal and completely flat.

I am not really musically inclined, so the jargon i use are probably bot accurate, but at least i am able go distinguish good music from shit one
