Now that I've had a few months to digest the game, I liked it a lot, but it has these weird problems that keep me from enjoying it as much as I did 3 and 4 my first time >_>

The Bad:

-My biggest problem is definitely the pacing. It's all over the place, especially towards the end. Sometimes the game just drags on between dungeons and even during dungeons like 5 and 8. But the last part after palace 7 until the end of the game just takes FOREVER to do. They really should've ended the game at Shido. Instead, right about when we are supposed to get the climax, the game blue-balls us and is like "Hold up ho! You gotta wait like 10 more hours before you can do that lulz" It just meanders and drags until the final boss before it lets go my junk and it legit made me really frustrated. I just wanted the game to end already at that point and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

-The group just doesn't feel as close as 3's and 4's. Ann basically is in the background after Makoto shows up and Haru barely has any time to integrate herself into the group since she shows up so late. She was still a stranger to me at the end of the game and just didn't feel like she belonged. Even Akechi felt more natural to the party because we interacted with him throughout the game beforehand and in his dungeon, he was a team player and interacted with the party a lot, while Haru literally just opens 1 door in her dungeon and then doesn't do jack shit for the rest of it lol. Plus she literally doesn't even get properly introduced into the plot until like the last like 20% of the game, where they just dump all her shit on you at once. I'd still fuck her tho >_>

-The "shenanigans" cutscenes are awful in this game >_> They start off strong, like the buffet and infiltrating Yusuke's house were great, but after that, they took a nosedive and none of the events are fun to watch. The beach, Hawaii, Culture Festival, and Destinyland were all boring as fuck and barely anything fun happens in them. P4 and maybe even P3 had more fun scenes to bond the party members together.

-Morgana telling you to go the fuck to bed between dungeons is frustrating >_> "Oh you had a 10 minute convo with your friends after school? Better go to bed, you must be tired!" They honestly should've removed that restriction and bumped up all the requirements a tiny bit to compensate. It feels really restrictive on free time when you're not in a dungeon.

But it did have some good things too:

-The social links were still aight. The Gun Dealer and Sadayo were top quality links and a lot of fun to do. The only one I didn't really like was Ryuji, but everyone else was fine.

-The hubworld is the best one so far. There's a ton of stuff to do in it and just walking around looking for something to spend time on was legit fun on its own.

-The battle system is better than Golden and is very fun. Even just grinding was fun.

-The music is 10/10 like the rest of the series. I still listen to the music on occasion.

-You can fuck mad MILFs. And the waifu quality is great. Sadayo, Tae, Makoto, etc. are top tier >_>

-The style of everything is on another level. 3 and 4 were stylish, but 5 is fucking stylish

- Most of the dungeons were fun. No more random generated crap, they felt like actual dungeons now. Even the not so good ones had a few moments I liked.

-Overall they did a great job with the whole "Thief" theme of the game. The theming is well put together throughout the game.

If I had to rank them tho, I'd say P4G > P3FES >= P5 right now. When I got done with 3 and 4, I wanted to replay them immediately, but with P5, I kinda just wanted to stop after I was done and the ending left a sour taste in my mouth.

They should of just send you to bed, or let you use the velvet room at least. Lots of people say they do it to give you a chance to save, but you rarely need to save that often, and the game could just ask you anyway.

I guess that's why they did that, but you can skip cutscenes and dialogue anyway, so it would've felt better to just bypass the bedroom entirely and go day to day in that case during plot dumps. You could just skip what you saw already if you have to turn off the console prematurely for whatever reason.

I agree with most of that, really, but it's still one of my favourite games of the year. I wish the segue from Shido to the final dungeon was better done because after it winded down, it was hard to wind back up when you knew you were so close to the end.

The hangout scenes could have had things besides just talking about Phantom Thieves and if they did Haru like they did Naoto in P4, she would have probably felt more integrated to the team.

Eh, I'm of the mind that if you need to repeat and skip scenes because you weren't really given much chance to save, that's poor game design. I can see why it annoys people, but right now without giving it too much thought, I prefer it done the way it is to your alternative.

I don't think it's especially bold. The praise and criticism Neon posted are all pretty common from what I've read.

P5 was on its way to being the best until dungeon 2 ended and then got even worse at dungeon 5. the party has no semblance of feeling as close as it did in dungeons 1 & 2 the more you played the game

then don't forget the 15 hour slog at the end of the game

rest of what you said I agree with except I put p3 fes > p4g > p5 personally

I had a good deal of fun anyway but the end as well as mementos were just not enjoyable at all

Still never beat the game, but I thought it was fun.

For the first 3 dungeons, I was completely captivated. At first, I loved the cohesion of the group with you, Ryuji, Anne, Yusuke, and Morgana. It reminded me a lot of 80s movies like The Goonies or Stranger Things (not an actual 80s movie but you know what I mean), where you have this group of misfit kids that join together to go on this great adventure that only the kids can do.

5 hour tutorial aside (lol), the pacing was just on point. I felt like there was a definite ramping up of the stakes and like the group was getting into bigger and more dangerous situations as the phantom thieves grew. First you have their teacher, then a famous painter, and then an actual criminal. It was great and each level had personality, and I loved how the group worked together.

However, I felt like things started to kind of fall apart after the 3rd palace. The pacing started to slow down as the group grew, and I didn't really feel that group cohesion anymore. While I thought the 4th palace was interesting, it just didn't feel like it was building off of what was established in the 3rd one.

Persona 5 is a 100 hour game and it felt like the game KNEW this, so rather than making a story that rises and climaxes, it just kind of keeps going along, which did not hold my interest at all. The group cohesion started to suffer and as you mentioned, characters like Makoto were so dominating over other group members. The little things, like too much time in between dungeons, a lack of player choice (which I guess is par for the course in JRPGs, but in Persona 5 even the dialogue choices didn't matter), how unfun Mementos was, etc all added up to me losing interest.

By the 5th palace, where you run out of SP because all of the enemies are so weak point dependent, I just got bored. I think I was 50~ hours into the game and just wanted to move onto something else.

Maybe I'll go back to it sometime but idk. It's just hard to find the motivation and I only have so much free time these days.

I thought the group felt pretty close. The ending scene where they all grab a van and take protagonist back home solidified them all as buddies for me. Way better than Persona 4 having everyone cry like they were never gonna see each other again.

And I didn't mind the shenanigans scenes not being as good. Persona 4 felt way too lighthearted and slice of life-y for being a murder mystery. I really liked Persona 5 being more serious. But I'm also way more of an SMT guy, so I'm a bit more biased to a darker more serious story.

If you played P3 and P4 than it should have been pretty obvious that it wasn't gonna end at Shido. Also the "drag" was worth it for Joker summoning the strongest persona of all, Satan with a gun, who shoots holy grail transformer god in the face saving Christmas.

lol Well said.

Honestly I didn't see the final bit of the game as a slog, I was loving it. I was just getting severely burnt out on it by that time, which was my own fault.

I burned myself out around palace 4 I think? Futaba's pyramid. Originally thought it would be a short palace and instead it feels longer and more difficult than the previous ones. Unless it's just that I need to fuse up some better Personas.

Been debating on pushing through the rest of the game sometime this summer.

After finishing and completely loving the game the character spread was rough. TC is completely on point with Ann. Makato and Futaba are both extremely plot relevant and do most of the talking and planning. Ryuji is still very prominent and talkative with Morgana. Yusuke is weird since he goes to a different school but still talks as much as Ann while she is in your class.

Haru got it the worst by far. Seems like they could have forced you to join the gardening club to keep the problem student out of trouble. At least you would have actually spoken to Haru more than once before she becomes relevant.

Also, another point I should've made was the texting. It was cool at first but I got so sick of it halfway through the game I usually just skipped most of it lol

Especiallu after dungeons it was the worst. Literally every night, they're like "Is his heart going to change?" "it happened last time so it should."

Next night:
"I guess we'll have to wait and see if his heart will change." "I hope it turns out ok."

x 20

But I do like the texting for social links. Instead of having a conga line in the hallway to talk to MC like in 4, everyone just quickly texts you after class. That was cool.

But the plot texting needed to back off and not repeat itself.
