See, look at this dapper chappy going to work:
Cb14ZFIg

Now look at him again here hitting da bar with da bois:
vxcwuHR

If you have the keen eye, you will see his pants and shirt are exactly the same in both photos. You don't necessarily need "smart" clothes and "casual" clothes. What you need is the right accessories and shoes.

TL;DR - basics in a variety of neutral colours go a long way. In nerd terms, your potential outfit possibilities increase exponentially when you have pieces of clothing that are adaptable.

The whole tennis shoes as a casual smart thing is a polarising thing I guess. The colours are great though.

The first pic looks like he knew what he was doing when he got dressed. The second pic looks like he closed his eyes and put on the first things he grabbed. And his pants don't seem long enough.

That's kind of the point. But it's done with a subtle respect for colour and balance. The pants fit just right everywhere that matters, what you're looking at is someone deliberately going for a no-break look. Not for everyone, but not a mistake.

The only thing I would critique is he needs to up his sneaker game a little.

Because all of those guys dress just like the pansy hipsters you're mad about.

I am passionately against young men in 2017 buying expensive running sneakers, wearing them without socks, and then rolling up their $300 raw denim jeans to give everyone a sneak peak of their slender ankles.

let's look at this guy you posted:

vxcwuHR

Right off the bat, I know 2 things just by looking at his outfit:

1. He definitely had to make the conscientious decision to not wear his matching jeans with that denim jacket so he would not arrive to the bar in a Canadian tuxedo

2. I can kick his fucking ass

Then he has the gall to pinroll up his little olive chinos (in my ideal world, olive pants would not even exist) so you can see his little baby ankles and sockless running shoes. The fact that he bought $200+ running shoes and wears them sockless is an absolute disgrace, because he is rubbing it in your face that he does not run in them and never has.

Imagine this man out at a bar. He pulls up in his teal Kia Soul and walks into the bar after spending 15 minutes having his parking spots stolen by more assertive drivers. He walks into the establishment and goes up to the bar to get a drink. He raises one finger to signal the bartender's attention, but the bartender does not notice him as he is busy chatting up a group of ladies on the other side of the bar.

Mr. Ankles gets his vodka cranberry ("Do you guys have light cranberry juice?") and sits down at his table with his friends. They discuss the various fades they are working to achieve on their selvege denim. As Ankles is discussing how he carries a zippo lighter with him even though he doesn't smoke, he spots a gorgeous babe out of the corner of his eye. After prodding from his friends, Ankles goes over to talk to her.

"Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-excuse me," he says to her. "I couldn't help but notice you from across the bar. That is a very interesting top you're wearing."

The woman takes one look at this man, scanning him up and down. She sees his slight, hairless ankles sticking out of his pristine ultraboosts, throws back her head, and laughs so hard that a blood vessel pops in her eye. The entire bar soon joins in and Mr. Ankles leaves in shame.

FYI though I'm personally not about the ankles showing look, I just don't understand the intense revulsion you have for it on other men. You seem very invested.

im just fucking around while i have my morning coffee, mostly

but i do dislike when people wear no socks with most shoes, especially ones like the adidas shoes (are those actually ultraboosts?) where the athletic heritage of these shoes is still current (if that makes sense) and so it feels kind of contrived when someone wears them with no socks.

however i can understand that look. what i really do not like though and fills me with intense disgust is when guys wear a suit and dress shoes with no socks and have their ankles exposed. i just dont think a mans ankle is something so appealing that you need to put it on display with more traditional clothing in an average setting

But in the Arabic world a little ankle is positively scandalous

Ok Olive branch time - I don't like the whole nike roche with a suit thing that became popular and is hanging around longer than it should.

Those don't appear to be ultraboosts in the pic, which are more slim profile. Not sure what they are to be honest.

It's like no one wants to see dapper women.

What you could do is pick up the tan ones from ASOS:
https://goo.gl/jkTFQn

And then apply a dark tan polish which will bring them up a sort of dark burgundy colour. I did this with my boots and then turned out well.

Brogues have the higher heel right?

No, brogues refer to broguing, which is the ornate pattern of holes on the upper, like this:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/45/Rosette_%28Broguing%29.jpg/220px-Rosette_%28Broguing%29.jpg

Oxfords are a style of shoe where the shoelace eyelets are attached under the vamp. Essentially the entire upper of the shoe looks like one piece of leather. Derbys are similar, but the shoelace eyelets are attached on top of the vamp, so the shoe looks like two separate pieces. You can see the difference here (derby on the left, oxford on the right)
https://www.robinsonsshoes.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LOAKE-OX-DERBY.jpg

"Wingtips" are often used interchangeably with brogues, but actually refers to the shape on the upper that looks like a wing, or a W. Like this:
http://www.primermagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Wingtips/Wingtip_NoBrogue.jpg

So the guy I posted in the OP is actually wearing derbys, not oxfords. They happen to be Allen Edmonds, incidentally.

This has been a shoe education. A shoeducation.
