So why is 47% of people of the opposing ideology to Trump thinking that support of Trump would strain friendships a more interesting story than 25% of his own voterbase thinking the same?

One figure is twice as big as the other. That's that's important.

Well, duh, we know that. You're an intolerant person, that's why you're a liberal. It's a trait of the party.

And conservatives are so welcoming, tolerant, and diverse.

That's correct. My conservative friends are much more accepting of my liberal views than my liberal friends are of my conservative views. Hell, you yourself are a prime example of personified hate.

Fuck off :v

Way to immediately prove him right lmao

The ironic thing is I didn't even expect him to say that.

In seriousness, anecdotes are never proof of anything. I myself have been around very intolerant conservatives and most liberals I'm friends or acquaintances with are welcoming individuals. Some liberals may have been intolerant of certain ideas, but conservatives I've met have been intolerant of certain people. What you consider worse depends on your values, I guess. But again, that's an anecdote. You have every right to discard it.

As for myself, I can be friends with a Trump voter. But I don't know if I can be friends with a full-blown MAGA hat "Trump is always right, libcucks BTFO" type of person. So far that type of person is only online but if I ever met one if the wild, I can't promise I can be friendly lol

Can't edit down on phone, but your 2nd paragraph is spot on. I ran into those types on b8 before CE, and I don't do much in terms of social media. I learned the term "cuck" during election season, although I had seen cuckold before, but only in porn video links, so I didn't make the connection. Although I knew of make America great again obviously, I didn't recognize maga as its acronym until last week when I asked about it on this board.

Also, there's a pretty noticeable difference between just having conservative views and supporting Trump, so again let's not make this a right vs. left thing.

So much THIS

Also, it's not Republicans with approval polls in the shitter. It's Trump. Vast majority of Americans disapprove of him.
Very good point. But as mentioned the partisan politics of the US have bred an us vs them mentality between the two parties that keep people judging and entire group by the vocal minority. And most of the time in a group the most vocal are the minority. So the sane party members of each party don't have to scream about internet typos and scoops of ice cream because the founding fathers set up a system to keep corrupt individuals out. How many people that voted for Nixon actually followed him down the rabbit hole? We might know better if there was internet in the 70's.

Have you seen the newspaper articles about things Nixon supporters say? It's almost word for word what Trump supporters are using as defense

YdBF0F1
Thanks for that. But as I said was this a majority of the people that voted for Nixon at the start. Like I feel there are far less people still supporting Trump than those that still support him. So lumping all voters/Republicans with Trump supports is being somewhat dishonest. Unless there's stats to tell me otherwise. Personally there's a huge gap in the people I know that voted for him and still support him.

this whole abortion of a health care plan republicans had 7 years to prepare for

So your complaint is that he is not repealing and replacing Obamacare fast enough. Ok..? He shoulda just rammed whatever policy they drafted up on the spot through without fully knowing what was in it like Obama did to the ACA?

So you despise anyone who favors less government spending. K then.

failed promises left and right concerning the wall, coal miners, etc

You should probably wait more than 6 months before declaring that not yet delivering on one of the biggest government projects in recent memory was a broken promise. Made all the travel ban haters look foolish when a month later it was given the go-ahead.

wasting tax payer money because his wife did not want to live with him

If the expense of presidential accommodations is a problem for you then why complain about not spending more on parks and rec? Isn't the latter WAY more expensive?

tons of other shit i'm too lazy to type out

Given how weak your other reasons were, I bet you can't actually think of any more.

Unless you really would break a friendship over shit like not wanting to give China a hundred million dollars every year for a decade, in which case it says way more about you than it does your friend.

The worst things about Trump arent any of those things, it's the demagoguery, exploiting people's fears of the shrinking white majority for votes, "a taco truck on every corner" rhetoric, threatening to murder the innocent families of suspected terrorists, supporting torture, the otherization of Muslims, mainstreaming hate and prejudice and if you're brave enough to DENOUNCE hate and prejudice that means youre intolerant of other people's opinions.

To say nothing of his penchant for authoritarianism, which includes making people doubt the election system by claiming 3 million illegal votes so he can have an excuse to refuse to give up power in 2020, lying about election crowd sizes, stacking the govt with family and business partners and other people who are loyal to Trump first and country second, the blatant graft and corruption, firing the people investigating him, then bragging to the Russian ambassador about how it took the pressure off, being besties with dictators like Putin and Erdogan while giving democratic allies the cold shoulder, sowing distrust for journalists and other institutions that dare question him, these things have a name. Authoritarianism, thy name is Trump!

Sexual assault against numerous women, blatant racism, betraying top secret info to the Russians, the list goes on. Trumpistas are not my friends and never shall be if they support Trump.

I've always found it a bit amusing how some on the left will give examples of policies that have supposedly "failed" and use it as ammunition as to why Trump is so awful when they themselves don't support the policy.

The biggest laugh is when they talk about the travel ban and how Trump "failed" on it. He didn't fail. He's likely the only one who would have even entertained the idea let alone enact it. It's not his fault liberal activist judges tried to stop it (for now). At least it's in effect currently, in some form. Better than nothing at all, that's for sure.

Illegal immigration is easily down over 50% since he took office. Literally slashed in half. I think recent reports actually put it down near 75%. He's allowing ICE and border patrol to actually perform their jobs.

Sanctuary cities who knowingly harbor illegal immigrants, some of them having even committed crimes and violent crimes, are having the fire put to their heels with some already having folded their sanctuary policy.

Crippling regulations are being cut, expensive and stifling bureaucratic agencies are being rolled back, and budgets are starting to get balanced. The Dakota access pipeline has been given the green light, buy American and hire American initiatives are being implemented. Actual pro-American policies are being put into place versus just being talked about year after year.

Trump's doing quite a bit for only being in office for 6 months.

He hasnt implemented any authoritarian policies because thank god for all of us he's SO FUCKUNG INCOMPETENT he's his own worst enemy. He doesnt have to implement policies to tilt us towards authoritarianism. We live in a country whose democracy relies on informal uncodified norms, with two parties behaving like two teams in a pick-up basketball game without any refs, both sides pledging to abide by the honor system. Every informal norm that's broken, every uncodified guardrail that's there to protect our democracy that gets smashed through, tips us further towards authoritarianism. The damage Trump does to our country will outlive Trump. and that's not even touching on Paris climate, deregulation, or any of the other awful causes Trump has advanced.

Nah much like "throwing gay people off buildings" and "chuck her into a van" it's a tested slogan the alt-right likes to toss out because it makes them seem like they're making a cohesive and powerful point when in reality they're just regurgitating something without thinking.

You know this is something muslim extremists actually do, right?

..........Right?

It's still crazy to me that I feel like I can't even say "our president is not that bad" without fear of alienating people. Like, I always knew I had those few far right wing friends and family members who I knew not to talk about Obama around, but now it seems like mentioning Trump around anyone is like walking on eggshells.

Maybe because it reflects on your character to support someone who's a racist misogynist sexual assaulting Putinist authoritarian corrupt demagogue

That's probably because it's a real, observable thing.

of course when the alt right bring up throwing gay people off of buildings its not because they are concerned

That's funny. Let me change this around some.

Fitting, no?
