It'd be hilarious. 20 people decide to increase the tax rate on the highest bracket to 100% and the other 80 immediately retaliate (assuming a trolling majority leader) by overturning the tax and paying each member of the 1% 10 million dollars.

The wording of the Constitution has clearly overridden common sense before.

I can't find in the Constitution where it says you need a majority to pass a bill, just that you need a majority present to operate.

Mitch alone votes yes on a bill, sends it to Trump who signs it, boom it's law.

Now it DOES specifically say that two-thirds of both houses can override a Presidential veto, but it says nothing about overriding a bill signed into law

I mean realistically losing the mandate really does lose a key provision of the ACA but the Trump administration already said they were gonna half-ass enforce it anyway (aka not at all) so it's likely that this won't have as big of an impact as expected.

So I believe the vote was actually on changing the bill to BCRA+Cruz. I'm pretty sure that there would be subsequent opportunity for more amendments and then a final vote later had that passed, but by voting for it you're basically saying the BCRA is close enough to what you want that you think you might be able to get to yes through amendments.

Actually sorry, I take that back; the vote was on whether BCRA+Cruz complied with the budget act (it doesn't), but I don't think anyone was treating it like a procedural vote.

see, while i'm all in favor of investigating Hillary for what she did, that only is the case if she's going to get into politics.
if she's done with it as an insider, even though she did wrong, there just isn't much to do. i don't agree with this stance since her situation is fairly unique in that we know wrongdoing occurred, though that's something this administration just can't bullshit with because they're just as guilty. quite frankly her defense should be "me having a private server is far more secure than the current president's android phone."

This is wrong. There's some overlap, but the group of people who the individual mandate incentivizes to buy insurance are the people who don't think buying insurance is worth it to them. For some of them it's because, as you say, they can't afford it (though this is minimized by Medicaid expansion, which the authors of the ACA assumed would happen in all 50 states, and subsidies, which could probably stand to be increased), but it also includes healthy people who can afford it but don't think they'll make much use of it. If these people don't buy in, insurers will be forced to make their plans prohibitively expensive for those who really do need them, since their expected cost per person goes up due to the sicker pool.

I don't really know what to tell you if your complaint is that healthy people end up subsidizing sick people besides "yeah, that's how health insurance is supposed to work"

So that's for BCRA+Cruz specifically, which would have required 60 votes since it contains several provisions that either don't comply with the Byrd Rule or which haven't yet been judged one way or the other (e.g. the Cruz amendment). Mitch can still offer up other plans (e.g. 2015 repeal, the "skinny" repeal they're talking about, hell even AHCA itself if he wants) and have those voted on.

I don't agree that there's that many people who think they won't get sick and want to take the risk. I think it's a lot more that people can't afford it, meaning that there are much better uses for their money than insurance to protect the minimal assets they have, such as food, rent, vacations, etc.
