Yeah, I tend to like the shows with over the top plots. It's why I don't watch shows like say... The Wire. Which I'm sure is a great show. Or any of the CSI's for that matter. I just prefer things that don't take themselves too seriously.

I tried Burn Notice once--but I couldn't get into it. To be fair though, I tried Leverage once, and couldn't get into it either. Then I tried again later, and absolutely loved it. (Obviously).

Burn Notice definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. It has a lot of ridiculous episodes of its own. One of my favorites for example the main character runs a con where part of it involves convincing some gangbangers he's Satan.

It's just more of a mix. It's definitely closer to something like Leverage than something like CSI, which I don't particularly care for either-- give me Leverage over CSI any day of the week.

#6: Grimm
Network: NBC
Genre: Supernatural Drama
Available: Amazon, Hulu, Yahoo, NBC
Favorite Character: Nick Burkhardt
Favorite Episode: Beginning of the End Part 2
Premise: Nick Burkhardt learns that he comes from a long line of Grimms--those who hunt the supernatural known as Wesen
ahj1JAR
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
Grimm is like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but with a male lead, and fairy tale creatures instead of vampires. Also it's a little darker, because Grimms like to behead their enemies--some of whom are fairly normal and not evil like Vampires. I absolutely love the show's lore. At first I thought the show wouldn't be able to come up with enough stories to really fit the show, but they managed to do six seasons worth. And each episode I thought was at bare minimum pretty good. Which is impressive for a show that had over 100 episodes. The creator also would have a bit of fun with fans, by putting end titles up sometimes like "To Be Continued... Sorry!" and "To be continued... You knew this was coming." But the best one was probably "Oh Shit!" which occurred before a hiatus. The show had a pretty good cast of characters, though some of them didn't have the chemistry they should. (Nick and Juliette in particular, which is really weird because David Giuntolli and Bitsie Tulloch are married now). But Monroe and Rosalee were a fantastic couple. And it was nice seeing them have Wesen friends, instead of just human ones. (Which is another thing it has in common with Buffy. Non human allies). Hank and Wu were great too. The show is steeped with great lore. Which is one of the reasons it's one of my favorite shows. The show survived a lot of things, including being moved around by the network, and the Friday night death slot. But it managed to get a proper ending--and one that was really good at that. Few shows get really good endings, and Grimm got one. (Though I hope it continues in comic book form). I think it also avoided a lot of the bad plots that other shows probably would have had. The show also had Trouble--who was underused, but a pretty awesome Grimm herself. And I swear she and Nick look like siblings. The show was a bit more procedural than your typical Buffy episode, though it never felt that way.
Spoiler Thoughts:
Wasn't a fan of the Nick losing his powers storyline--but at least it had some ultimate consequences to it. Juliette became a hexenbiest, and then killed his mom--leading him to wind up with Adalind. I thought for a long time they were going to put Nick and Juliette back together, but nope. They didn't, and I'm glad. I'm not a huge Nadalind fan, but I think their relationship works better than Nick and Juliettes. Nick going up against like fifty corrupt wesen cops at the end of season 4 was awesome. Then Diana having her dad kill the head of Blackclaw? I do feel Blackclaw was sort of written hastily, but the story was still pretty good. Oh and of course the Blackclaw Cop kidnapping Diana. That was great. Renard panics at first, then remembers his daughter is a hexenbiest with godlike powers, and casually sits down. And then Diana plays with her kidnapper--namely tossing him all around the room. The show had some bad plots--like the amensia storyline (though Monroe and the cat was hilarious), but it was still a really fun show. Also Nick, His mom, his Aunt Marie, and Trouble vs Zerstorer? That was awesome. I don't care that they faked out all those deaths. It was totally worth it. Plus Kelly and Diana working together at the end with their parents and the triplets? Yeah, Portland is going to be safe for a long time.

#5: The Flash
Network: CW
Genre: Action
Available: Netflix
Favorite Character: Barry Allen
Favorite Episode: Fast Enough
Premise: The Story of The Flash
r3qleVX
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
The Flash is my favorite Superhero Story. It's got a great cast of characters including Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, Joe, and Harrison Wells. In time, the show may fall a little like Arrow did. Season 3 wasn't quite as good as the first two. But the show still holds up very well. Barry Allen is the fastest man alive. Growing up I was never impressed by the Flash. I thought "So what if he can run fast?" It was The Flash that made me fall for the Speedster in Red. Joe West is probably the best TV dad ever. The Reverse Flash is probably my favorite villain. The show has a lot of fun with the concept, without being so dark like Arrow is. The show's only had one episode I'd consider not that good, but it was still a little entertaining at least. The first season is easily the best. Then... season two tried to recapture that magic, and it missed the mark a little. Season three they tried again... and failed. If the show continues this trend, it probably won't remain in my Top 5. But so far the show has been really solid. There are times when Barry could act a bit smarter--a lot of times. He has super speed, and could potentially solve a lot of problems if he used it properly. But for the sake of plot, he can't. Grant Gustin does a good job as Barry. And I like Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin. Cisco and his movie references are always excellent. Also Wentworth Miller does a great Captain Cold, though the way he talks can be annoying after a while. The show has been steady quality. Hopefully they can keep it up unlike Arrow. (though if the characters keep making dumb decision after dumb decision, eventually it's going to get annoying)
Spoiler Thoughts:
Seriously though. Season 1: Speedster Villain who the heroes treat as an ally turns out to be the villain. Season 2: Speedster Villain who the heroes treat as an ally turns out to be the villain. Season 3: Speedster villain who the heroes treat as an ally turns out to be the villain. Season 4 won't have a speedster villain at least. Hopefully it'll be a group instead. Also I hope we get a new Harrison Wells every season. That'd be a fantastic recurring joke. Season 1 Welles. Season 2 Harry. Season 3 is H.R. Season 4 could be H.G! Or Harris. Though I suspect Harry may stick around for a while. Also I'm glad they aren't going with the WILL THEY OR WON'T THEY with Barry and Iris for too long. Relationship drama gets old quick. (Almost as quick as Barry!). Also stop with the time travel! You were told not to do it Barry. You just never listen!

I might be able to get into The Flash/other superhero shows and enjoy them fine, but one inevitable downside - essentially the same as their strength - is that they come with a ton of baggage. Especially with crossovers and/or expanded universes dominating now, superhero shows I feel are never designed to move toward an endgame... ever. And that takes a lot of the wind out of the sails of the idea for me.

#4: Warehouse 13
Network: SyFy
Genre: Sci-Fi
Available: Nowhere
Favorite Character: Claudia Donovan
Favorite Episode: Emily Lake
Premise: Government Agents track down mystical artifacts and store them in Warehouse 13
EZR1Zsw
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
Warehouse 13, a world of Endless Wonder. Yeah, probably not what most people were expecting, but I honestly love this show. Two secret service agents Pete and Myka are transferred from Presidential Detail to something more important--a warehouse in Univille South Dakota. Back during the days of Alexander the Great, the first Warehouse was constructed. And in that warehouse they stored dangerous and magical artifacts. Since then the Warehouse has moved 12 times, before arriving in the United States. Usually it was located in the nation that was the most powerful at the time. Each week the agents of Warehouse 13 track down whatever's ruining the world's day, and snag it, bag it, and tag it. I particularly like this Haiku someone wrote: It's Like SCP/But instead of Weird Creatures/It's a whole lot worse. Most of the artifacts have some historical significance to them. Such as Catherine O'Leary's cow bell (which causes immense fires) Abraham Lincoln's Hat (which makes you want to free black people) Harriet Tubmans Thimble (which lets people take the form of other people) Pavlov's Bell (which will make dogs come straight to you, but you'll be slobbering for 24 hours), Jimmi Hendrix's guitar (which shoots lightning) and the Donnor Party Glass Jar (which causes anyone who puts money in it to starve) and so many more. The show is a lot of fun, and has a good cast. Along with Pete and Myka is Artie, who is sort of the leader. He's older, and has seen a lot of agents come and go from the Warehouse (of course most former Agents of the Warehouse are either crazy, dead, evil, or some combination of all 3.) Claudia Donovan also joins pretty early. She's a computer wiz who often messes around with things she absolutely shouldn't. And later we get Jinks, who can tell when people are lying. The show was screwed by the network, getting only six episodes in their final season to wrap up the show. But somehow they managed to do a pretty good job of ending it. Even with executive meddling at the end pushing Pete and Myka together.. It was hard for them to resolve everything, but they managed to do what they could and came up with a pretty good ending. The show also makes quite a few references to other stuff in Sci-Fi and supernatural shows. I mean they Kaylee and Simon from Firefly, as a couple? James Marsters and Anthony Head both show up too. It's another show that I don't think has any really bad episodes. The show is less about villains, and more about the artifacts--though the show does have a few big bads. Usually people who know about Artifacts, and want to use them to their own ends. Oh yeah, and a lot of it is Steampunk which is pretty cool. Tesla Guns are awesome! Especially since they erase the last 5 minutes of memory.
Spoiler Thoughts:
Jinks death, though it's later undone, is still one of my favorite death scenes. That scream from Allison Scagliotti was fantastic acting. And Eddie McClintock does a great job in the scene, because you almost immediately know what's going on. And it's just really good selection of music too with Running Up That hill/Deal with god. I still cry every time, even knowing he's coming back. Sykes is a great villain. He just kills Jinks for no good reason. It's also painful when Artie tells Pete he'll remember him dying--even after resetting the timeline. And Evil Artie going crazy... a lot of really good episodes. Even H.G. Welles sacrificing herself was well done. Good redemption arc for her after nearly destroying the world.

#3: Doctor Who
Network: BBC
Genre: SciFi
Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHxicdBaqJ0

Available: Amazon
Favorite Character: The Doctor
Favorite Doctor: The 11th Doctor (Matt Smith)
Favorite Companion: Donna Noble
Favorite Enemy: Daleks
Favorite Episode: The Day of The Doctor
Premise: An Alien Travels through space and time in a blue telephone box
CdZ3JHD
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night and the storm in the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the center of time and can see the turn of the universe. And... he's wonderful. (Or I guess I should say Zhe because we now have a Female Regeneration!) Doctor Who is my third favorite show. It's got a long history. And it's all about The Doctor and the Tardis (his big blue box that he stole from Gallifery years ago) that travels through time and space. It might never get him where he wants to go, but it always gets him where he needs to be. The show has had its ups and downs over the years. (I've not seen much of Old Who though). But it's still a great show. It's got a lot of great recurring enemies (The Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and so many more), and a lot of one time enemies too. Like the Vashda Nerada, The Midnight Creature, The Beast, and a few others too. You never know what the show is going to throw at you next. And The Doctor takes it all on, not with brute force--but with his (or her) cleverness. The Doctor is nothing if not Clever, and that's why his/her enemies fear him/her. The Doctor is mostly a pacifist--but a genocidal one that will NOT hesitate to wipe everyone out if they don't take the peaceful option. Of course given the chance he'll also try his hardest to save EVERYONE. The Doctor has had many faces, and many personalities, but is essentially the same person underneath. And each Actor has done a fantastic job at the role. Which is truly impressive when you think about it. My personal favorite is the 11th Doctor so far. But I like them all. Some of them took time to grow on me--Tennant and Capaldi. But they always did in the end. I think the doctor has some of the best badass boasts ever. Like "I'm the Doctor, and you're in the biggest library in the universe. Look me up." The show has created a vast universe, and it's one that I really like a lot. I was never able to get too much into Star Wars. But Doctor Who? That I can get into. I'm not sure why. But it's an awesome show, and who knows how long it'll be going on. I just hope to be there for the 100th anniversary. If only I could find a blue telephone box... Oh yeah and the music's awesome.

Spoiler Thoughts:
Some favorite moments: "Everybody lives Rose. Just this once, everybody lives!" Bad Wolf destroys the Daleks. The 9th Doctor's Regeneration. The Cybermen threaten the Daleks. "We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?" "Four." "You would destroy the Cybermen with four daleks?" "We would destroy the Cybermen with one dalek!" Then later, Rose beats it with: "Five million Cybermen, easy. One Doctor? NOW you're scared." The Doctor punishes the family of blood by spreading them across time to punish them. The entirety of Blink. "Don't blink. Whatever you do, don't blink." The entirety of Midnight, with the creepy repeating creature. Rose sends the Doctor a message with BAD WOLF absolutely everywhere. The 10th Doctor's regeneration. The 11th Doctor chases away the Atraxi by telling them to see if this planet is protected (and it is, by him!) "Sorry, Sorry, dropped it. Hello, Stonehenge! Who takes the Pandorica takes the Universe! But, bad news everyone, 'cause guess who? Ha! Except, you lot, you'er all whizzing about, it's really very distracting. Could you all stay still a minute because I AM TALKING! Now, the question for the hour is, "Who's got the Pandorica?" Answer: Id o. Next question: "Who's going to take it from me?" Come on, look at me! No plan, no bakckup, no weapons worth a damn, oh, and something else I don't have: Anything to lose! So, if you're sitting up there in your silly little space ships iwth all your silly little guns, and you've got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who's standing in your way! Remember every black day I ever stopped you, and then, AND THEN, do the smart thing! Let somebody else try first." Rory stuffs Hitler in the Closet. The Doctor reveals he used the Tesselecta to save himself so River wouldn't have to kill him. The Doctor tells the story the The Rings of Akhaten. The 10th, 11th, and War Doctors work together to stop the Daleks with some help from The Moment. The 11th Doctor Regenerates. The 12th Doctor defeats Robin Hood in a sword fight... with a spoon. Missy reveals herself to be The Master. The Doctor sitting in Davros' chair. "Admit it, you've all had this exact nightmare." And probably so many more that I've forgotten.

#2: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Network: WB
Genre: Supernatural Drama
Available: Hulu
Favorite Character: Buffy
Favorite Non-Buffy Character: Anya
Favorite Big Bad: Glory
Favorite Episode: The Body
Premise: Into every generation a slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness; to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their number.
JjRnosW
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
Buffy is my second favorite show, and it's one that I actually like most of! It's got a few weak episodes here and there. But it's still an amazing show. I remember growing up, I didn't get to watch the show every week. My older siblings would always take the TV. But ever once in a while, I got to see this show--and I loved it. Then I went back and rewatched it. And rewatched it. ANd rewatched it again. I don't even mind Dawn. I know most people can't stand her, but she didn't bother me too much. I was expecting something much more awful. The show has made me laugh, it's made me cry, it's made me excited.. it's done everything I like a show to do. And it's got a fantastic cast of characters. Giles, Buffy, Anya, Xander, Willow, Spike, are all pretty great characters. And the Big Bads are all fantastic too. I don't even mind ADAM too much. And Nathan Fillion was great as Caleb. There aren't really that many female heroes that really stand out on their own. I mean when was the last time Wonder Woman even got a movie before this past year? Katniss Everdeen didn't come on to the scene until recently. You have some of the X-men at least, but those movies are always more about Wolverine. It's nice to see a female action hero get some real attention. And she's not just another character turned male to female. She's Buffy. Always and forever. The show is a lot of fun, and has a lot of fun with itself. If I ever had a daughter, i'd probably name her Buffy, except I have a niece named Buffy so I can't. Buffy struggles with being the slayer, and is practically always marked for death. Yet with help from her watcher and friends, she's able to survive. It's her will to have a normal life in the end that really helps her survive. Because you need something to live for. The show is far from perfect--no show ever is. But it's a fantastic and truly enjoyable show. I love the mythology of it all, the characters. I'd love to see them do a Buffy TV sequel. Maybe on Netflix. She could reasonably have a daughter around now that's starting high school. (Wow that's kind of scary to think about)
Spoiler Thoughts:
Glory is my favorite big bad, though the mayor is probably second. I even like the first evil, and the master. I think one of my favorite moments is probably when Buffy kills the Judge with a rocket launcher. Joyce's death really made me cry. Especially when Buffy goes to pick Dawn up from school. And THAT is why I don't mind Dawn's character. Also I always felt that Buffy's power level changed from the start of the season to the end. Early on, she'd have trouble with simple vampires (Like when she first starts to college? How the hell did she have trouble with that one Vampire?) but by the end of the season she could take out an army of Vampire Gods. I think that's one of my few problems with the show. Dark Willow was a pretty great storyline, though I wasn't a huge fan of that resolution personally. Anya was some great comic relief, though her relationship with Xander ended tragically.

Theme: (WARNING: SPOILERS for all 12 seasons)

Available: Netflix
Favorite Character: Dean Winchester
Second Favorite Character: Castiel
Favorite Villain: Lucifer
Favorite Episode: Don't Call Me Shirley

PIzX5cY
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
I've been watching this show for almost half of my life. It's been 12 seasons, and it's been a hell of a ride. And it's had its ups and downs. There were a few weak seasons. But just like Sam and Dean Winchester, just when you thought all was lost, the show manages to pick itself back up and kick some ass! These are two brothers you do not want to mess with. It doesn't matter if you're a demon, a werewolf, a vampire, the devil himself, or even a god. These brothers find a way. And somehow after 12 seasons they're still finding ways to make them even more awesome. It's kind of funny to go back and watch some of the old seasons and see how Jensen and Jared have changed in 12 years. They look so young back then. THey dont' really look old now--but you can tell they've aged. I mean it's been 12 years of course they've aged. The show has featured a large cast of characters, many of whom don't make it. Hunting is a dangerous job, but someone has to do it. And Sam and Dean are probably the best two for the job. And they always do it in style--with their 1967 Chevy Impala. The show isn't a comedy-drama, but it has some of the funniest moments ever. And that's one of the things I absolutely love about this show. It's funny, it's scary, it's exciting, it's sad, it can make you feel every emotion under the sun. It's had a lot of great enemies over the years. The four horsemen of the apocalypse. Crowley. Lucifer. And no matter what's thrown against them, Sam and Dean find a way to succeed. Oh, and the music... oh gosh the music. It's basically all your parents favorite songs. Carry On Your Wayward Son being the best of them. Each season (except the first) begins with a ...The Road So far, along with that classic hit song by Kansas. It's something I always look forward to every May. This is a show that I'm going to really miss when it's gone. I know it won't last forever. But I think as long as the main two actors want to do it, they'll keep going. The writers, creators, and everyone has done a truly fantastic job to build what is easily my favorite show. Also the show has added Gank to my vocabulary. Gank, brought to you by the letter G. I used to rewatch this show every summer, but it's gotten too long now.

Supernatural is pretty good. Too inconsistent for me to rank at #1 but I would rate it highly and at its peak it's definitely #1 tier. I think the main problem with me is a lot of the characters I find pretty grating. Like you mentioned Chuck in a few of your favorite moments and man that guy was a huge irritant for me. And don't even get me started with mom from the current season.

BTW are you considering the great Crowley a villain or not when ranking Lucifer as your favorite villain.

Solid top 3 in any case.

As far as villains go...

I don't think Crowley makes a great villain so much as he makes a good Frenemy. He's a great character, and Mark Shepard did a fantastic job. It'd be really hard for me to rank the Supernatural characters. Castiel and Dean at the top obviously. After that it's hard. You've got Crowley, Lucifer, Death, Sam, Bobby... oddly there's no female characters probably in my Top 10 (though Jo, Ellen, Rowena and Jodi may come close and maybe The Darkness). Supernatural has some good female characters, but no really great ones. They have a shot with Mary, but she's been almost as bad of a mother as John was as a father.

Also Supernatural Season Ranking!

5 > 11 > 4 > 3 > 10 > 2 > 12 > 6 > 1 > 9 > 7 > 8

Just a rough ranking.

6 is helped by the French Mistake, and the fact Season 1 had the Racist Truck and Bugs. Also it's so obvious now that they were still working on the Demon Mythology back in season 1. CHRISTO! CHRISTO! (then they never use it again)

So for people who have seen the show, what should I expect from Supernatural?

Like at first it seemed like it was basically a "two guys solve the supernatural mystery of the week" type thing

but all I ever hear anyone talk about regarding the show is how they want the brothers to fuck and also there are angels and stuff

so I'm really not sure what the show's actually about

Yeah

It's hard to think of Crowley as exclusively a villain considering how often he helps-- as far as pure villains go I'd agree with you that Lucifer is best but I think even if Crowley was still just a villain he might be my favorite. Great dude

My rough rating would be something like...

4 > 11 > 3 > 2 > 10 > 5 > 7 > 6 > 9 > 1 > 8 > 12

First season I'm pretty meh on and would've dropped had I not seen season 2 first. Bottom two are actually bad. Like the rest of the seasons to varying degrees but yeah even within seasons the quality is pretty inconsistent.

it's about two guys solving the supernatural mystery of the week, with some story arcs like in any show of its type

it really isnt the show's fault people ship brothers

supernatural is absolutely worth watching for the first five seasons. seasons 4 and 5 are easily the best IMO, but there are lots of neat ones - 2, 6, 8, 9, and 11 are all pretty good, too.

i have to admit though, 'carry on wayward son' is by far my favorite part of every season. if they didn't have that musical recap i don't think i'd even bother with the show anymore.

i've seen every season except 12 (waiting for a friend to finish S11 and then we might watch S12 together, or at least in parallel)

The show is basically a mix of

- Demon of the week like you saw. This is most of Season 1. I feel like if that type of stuff really doesn't resonate with you it's fairly safe to just start with the second season.
- Usually at some point in the season they hit some big plot moment involving some big bad demon or other threat. So they end up working towards that threat until that is solved, with the demons of the week working towards that in some way.
- Character drama. Sam and Dean often have slightly different ideas about how to solve things morally, efficiently, etc and what constitutes an acceptable measure to accomplish their goal, and to further complicate that they often work with others where the ideas are more than slightly different. Sometimes this is good and creates fun character dynamics. Sometimes it's overdone and I feel like I've been bludgeoned with this same issue several times in the season.

All this is covered with a nice humor/action/drama mix with a setting type you generally only get in movies nowadays, so yeah, the show keeps me watching. But it does have a lot of slumps.

I don't know what the brother shipping is about-- best to just ignore.

no way you should start with the second season! i think there are a few episodes from season 1 that are *really* worth it.

the pilot
the ones with meg
the ones with their dad, *especially* the colt

that's in addition to the 'don't fear the reaper' episode

I'm not saying there aren't good things in the first season but it definitely feels really different from the others (season 7 is also kinda like this-- I kinda liked that one changing it up though but it seems I'm fairly unique in this) to me-- I'd only recommend anyone skip the first season if they saw a few episodes and didn't like it.

Season 1... hmm

Plot relevant episodes (Major spoilers for all 12 seasons)

Pilot is obviously important. Jess's death, plus Sam and Dean start their search for their dad. Not to mention Mary's death.
Skin introduces Shapeshifters, and has Dean wanted by the FBI.
Home is probably a must watch
Asylum is probably necessary, since John calls at the end.
Scarecrow introduces Meg
Faith introduces the Reapers
Nightmare introduces special children and Max
Shadow gives us Meg and John
Hell House introduces the Tulpa
Something Wicked has a little backstory for Sam and Dean
Dead Man's Blood has them getting their hands on the Colt
Salvation is part 1 of the Finale
Devil's Trap is the finale

Other episodes with some relevance: (Major spoilers for all 12 seasons)

Wendigo has Tommy who appears later, though that's not TOO important.
Benders is probably not that important, but it is the first episode with human enemies
Route 66 is terrible, but I think Dean mentions the Racist Truck later. But not really important.
Provenance isn't too important, but Sarah does appear later
Bugs is also terrible, but is brought up by Chuck.

It's too hard to rank all the seasons at this point, but 5 is best, and 4, 6, and 11 make up the Top 4. 3, 8, 9, 10, and 12 are there in the middle, then 2 and 7 and 1 bringing up the rear. Plot arcs are better than MotW, and the first two seasons just have the most MotW episodes. And 7 does too, but also the main arc just isn't riveting.

#139: The Mole
Network: ABC
Genre: Reality
Available: Nowhere
Favorite Character: Anderson Cooper
Favorite Episode: None
Premise: People compete in challenges, but one person is trying to sabotage them. The players must figure out who this is.
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
Anderson Cooper was the best reality TV show host. I really liked the concept of the mole, and the show was pretty good. Each week players would compete in certain tasks, and The Mole would try to sabotage them. Players and viewers had to both figure out who it was. Then at the end everyone took a quiz, and whoever scored lowest would be eliminated. The eliminations were pretty cool. They also had clues each week to the mole's identity--but they were mostly ridiculous and nobody could ever figure them out. One of the better reality shows, though they went the celebrity route and sort of ruined it I think. Did we really need Stephen Baldwin twice?

We needed Corbin Bernsen twice!

#65: Girl Meets World

Network: Disney
Genre: Teen Sitcom
Available: Netflix
Favorite Character: Maya Hart
Favorite Episode: Girl Meets the Forgiveness Project
Premise: A Sequel to Boy Meets world starring Cory and Topanga's daughter
Spoiler Free Thoughts:
Girl Meets World is a spinoff from Boy Meets World, only with a female main character instead of a male one. At times the show can be very anvilcious, and without subtlty. They repeat their themes a bit too much. But I think the characters were still a lot of fun. Riley was goofy and optimistic. Her naivety made her character funny. ("Look at the bird!") She was all sunshine and rainbows. Maya on the other hand was the cynic with a good heart. And easily the best new character on the show. Her father left when she was little, and her mom was always busy with work. Most people I think watched for the stars of the old show--Cory, Topanga, Shawn, and the occasional appearance by some of the other characters. Like Eric (who in his appearances was truly funny. "Fine, stay a hobbit!") I think the show did make the mistake of trying to repeat the relationship of Cory and Topanga with Riley. Of course I'm a Riley/Maya shipper, but I just think that they didn't need some sort of 'meant to be together' storyline, and I think it would have been nice if Lucas had just been another friend (in addition to Farkle who is basically Minkus given actual screentime) without being a romantic interest for either of the girls. I thought the show was fun, goofy, and overall likable--much like the main character. It's one of Disney's better shows, and it was certainly helped by having the history of some of the cast. I think it tried a bit too hard to capture the magic of the original instead of trying to be it's own thing--which oddly enough was the theme of one of the episodes.

I agree with a lot of what you said, and I was hoping we could have some real high school seasons and growth because if you look back on the first few seasons of Boy Meets World... it's about the same in terms of repeated stories and an emphasis on Alan and Amy with bringing in his old band mates in The Monkees and other things. Cory is both a veteran of the old show and the dual role of dad and teacher so it felt about right how much time the parents were getting in many respects.

I do feel that the second season was too heavy on bringing back old BMW alumni and not focusing enough on Riley, Maya, and their classmates. Maya is one of my favorite characters and Riley's not far behind. I like Farkle's growth, Lucas' backstory and steadiness, and Zay and Smackle really brought a lot more than I first expected when they showed up. I also liked that we got quite a bit of Augie, Dewey, and Ava Morganstern. That felt more like Cory and Topanga than anything ever.

Also, credit to the past castmates showing up. Shawn brought so much to the show with his appearances, Eric was somewhat unexpected but PERFECT, and I really enjoyed the little brother Maya crushed heavy on. Then you've got those that... holy crap.

Corey Fogelmanis is Farkle Minkus.
Janitor Harley showing up just about as much as Janitor Bud.
Superintendent Turner, and especially ESPECIALLY his scene with Shawn in the finale. **** I'm crying already.
FEENY!
Chet Hunter's Ghost.
Tommy, the kid Eric almost adopted.
The producer's kid who played the little brother in the final episode of Boy Meets World (and the creepy kid in the married dorm hallways).
BOTH MORGANS

As well as Jackee and Cloris Leachman.
