It's way different in the books-- most of them are still poorly developed but the few that get more time are better. they're also not the focus of the Dorne plot- just supporting even there

yes. they are part of GRRM's 'world building' for book 6 in theory (as if using brand new characters 6 books deep into a story is a good idea)

they've been around since book 4 and they're still going to be minor characters in the long run
