I think it's overplayed and a crutch for insecure people. I cringe every time I see shit like "I'd disappoint her so hard" heavily upvoted on reddit. It's like, man, take some pride in yourself

This. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're just a Donald Trump-esque fucknugget. No one really likes to be around those kinds of people.

There's a difference between laughing at yourself and outright stating that you offer nothing of value in a relationship and framing it as a joke.

I think people go way too far with it

Go watch a video of a lion eating a human being. Go sit in a grave yard in Asia that displays bodies and watch as the corpses decay. We're all just meat sacks, wild animals, and will be nothing but a nasty corpse and fly food.

Life is not that serious, and taking things like people on Reddit making fun of themselves seriously just shows how lost you really are.

Who says that they believe it?

Humor finds its grounding in common fears and insecurities. Cross dressing in Britain in response to draft dodging and military service. Gay jokes in America when people were uncomfortable with sexuality. Now we have cuckhold jokes originating from men who feel marginalized and emasculated in an increasingly feminine-forward society.

The point is that they're trying to mask real fears of inadequacy, and that's when it goes too far and just seems pretty sad

Why do you care about other peoples' security levels so much, you have to make a topic about it after seeing something on Reddit?

Really reflect on that. You may come to find that you're trying to elevate your own esteem by putting down other people's from your own limited perspective. Tearing down others is not a healthy way to boost your own security.

I'm not tearing down or belittling anyone. This topic is literally about people being too hard on themselves and framing it as humor

My interpretation of the "I'd disappointing her so hard joke" has always been "I'd be so willing to disappoint this mega hot girl by blowing my load in her after 7 seconds" said by what I assume are average dudes about 10/10s.
