I've honestly heard the taste isn't anything special and it adds little to the dish....its just so expensive and sought after because its become such a big thing.

Had it for sushi once. Didn't like it and it was chewy.

Had shark's fin soup in Hong Kong long ago.
As per my festive ass, I stumbled upon it.

At any rate, it's bland and overpowered by even a mild broth.

If you're looking for exceptional taste, or just wild, look elsewhere.

Even the cheap swordfish steaks in my freezer pack more flavor, although a pain to perfectly grill.

It's pretty basic, you're better off spending that money on good tuna.

I've had it in Taipei, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Someone always orders it if it's on the menu.

Never had it but everyone I've talked to who has said it's mediocre and can't understand why the demand for it is so high.

I'm gonna go on a hippie rant here, but I watched a documentary about the practice. These scumbag piles of shit catch sharks, cut their fins off, and toss them back into the ocean alive, with no fins, with no way to swim. It's the equivalent of someone cutting off your arms and legs, and just leaving you there to either bleed our or starve to death. They sink to the ocean floor and just lay there until something eats them and kills them off or they starve to death or die from injuries. Every animal suffers senselessly. It's so disgusting and cruel that I would never spend money, or even for free, try shark fin in any capacity at all.

That's what gets me...i get killing for food....but from everything I've heard...the Fin isn't even worth it....why can't they AT LEAST do something else with the rest of the meat?

had it once, bland as fuck.
i rather eat dog meat than shark fin, and i don't even eat dogs.

Shark meat i have, but not the fin. It was kind chewy a bit, but has fish textures.

From what i know around here at least, they took the whole shark, sell thecfin in high prices in specific market, then sell the rest of the shark in your regular market for much lower price. That i can get behind, tho the existence of scum that only take fins are undeniable and it is disgusting.

king crab is often much more expensive than lobster and it is by far the best tasting crab and has the most meat as well.
