Naruto has multiple seasons that literally don't even exist in the Manga. Not even one page.

The original Dragon Ball Z had 260+ episodes, and when they remastered it into Dragon Ball Z Kai and "trimmed out all the filler", it was down to about 160 episodes. So the original DBZ had over 100 episodes worth of filler that Kai managed to trim out, especially when it came to a certain arc on a certain planet...

"Are they still on Namek?"
"Yes."
"Are they still on Namek?"
"Yes."
"Are they still on Namek?"
"Yes."
"Are they still on Namek?"

"Are they still on Namek?"
"Frieza JUST said he's going to blow up the planet, so they'll be off Namek soon! Now could you please shut the hell up!?"
"Oh, okay..."

(the next episode)

Has Namek blown up yet?"

Lmao wonder how many minutes would account for all the powerup straining sequences.

Depends on what you consider "filler" episodes, I suppose.

In DBZ, for example, I think everyone would agree that Goku and Piccolo learning to drive is filler. But do you consider an entire episode devoted to a single power-up as filler or just simply incredibly slow progression?

detective conan/case closed has 344 filler eps. show is 40% filler. they're at like 900 eps now so that's a lot of filler.

bleach is 45% filler. so think this is one of the higher filler % of long running shows.

dbz and one piece have just slow pacing. so it's kinda filler but not really. at least not in the same sense as the others that have full filler arcs.

Detective Conan(Case Closed)

Shit has been going for 21 years, and out of 868 episodes, 344 are filler (according to "animefillerlist")... And even the canon episodes are pretty much filler, since story progression only happens every 2-3 years

It has story progression? The last time I checked out one of the newest episodes it seemed like things were the same as it was at the start. Any time you'd think something would change, it would go back to how it was by the end of the episode.

Yeah, it's probably Case Closed. It has 344 fillers so far.

Shippuden is 44% filler, with 219 episodes. Not to mention canon episodes that involve filler nonsense thrown in for padding.

One Piece is actually only 13% filler, but it's slow as shit and only covers 1 chapter per episode. So it feels worse.

How does filler work anyway

Why do they write in their own episodes

How do they keep it to similar quality to the work being adapted

What counts as filler though? Completely made up content or stretching out content?

Because when it comes to the subject of filler people always quote DBZ and the Namek saga, but didn't that count as stretching out content rather that completely made up content?

The Final Act was the best thing that could have happened to that series. The biggest flaw of the original was how unbelievably slow it progressed, and the much faster pace in Final Act fixed that flaw. There's a reason why the MyAnimeList rating for Final Act is nearly half a point higher than the original series.

Oh, yeah, I completely agree. But it was just such a change and shift compared to what we had before.

It would be like if the original FMA got didn't have a resolution and they brought it back and finished it with Brotherhood.

Kind of. Every couple years they have an arc that revolves around "the organization", either adding new members, revealing identities, or doing something else minuscule... then they go back to their murder-of-the-week stuff.

Its such a shame because I really want to rewatch it again from the beginning, but I know that while it'll be great for a good while, it'll just end in disappointment. I'd love it if they tossed in the occasional filler arc where it's just the crew hanging around and messing with each other. It's been like half a decade since they've been able to do that.
