There are many reasons to hate it, but honestly, all they need to do is remove the mandate and it will crumble. I don't know why this is such an issue.

Because it's nicknamed after Obama, no other reason that that. They were stupid enough to let the 'Obamacare' name stick and now it's just a point of pride to republicans to get rid of it for no other reason than that.

I'm happy because it would've hurt so many people if it had passed in any form, my daughter included (pre-existing condition). I've never seen so many people trying to win the title for the most callous, cold-blooded and heartless group toward the citizens of their own country. This healthcare issue has become so politicized that everyone lost sight of what's important.
Obama care isn't good, and there are absolutely better alternatives. Instead of coming up with one, politicians and media are making this a socially dividing issue, disregarding the fact that the current system is far from perfect.

These public servants who are supposed work for the people are refusing to do their jobs so they can polarize the issue in a metaphorical pissing match.

I'm happy especially because this shows how utterly incompetent the Republican party is currently. They can't even pass their own fucking agenda because people in their own party find it ridiculous. I'm sure we'll get some manic tweets from Trump about "Democrat obstruction" and how it's an unprecedented amount and threats towards the Republicans who opposed the bill because he's fucking crazy.

I'm happy it got shot down, but I'm disappointed with how fractured and impotent the government is. This bipartisanship is such a headache. We need leaders who can work together toward a common goal, who can compromise, in both directions. This alone is enough to paint Trump as a colossal failure of a president. He is simply too ego and power driven to care enough to compromise and try to unite the country. But he certainly doesn't shoulder all of the blame.

You're never going to please everyone, but certainly it's better to seek middle ground than to try and appease the fringe.

The only part of this that makes me "unhappy" is if it means the Republicans actually give up and move on to the thing they actually want to tackle.... tax "reform" (if you thought cutting Medicare to give the rich tax breaks was trickle down economics, you ain't seen nothing yet!)

You see, the problem is all of the better alternatives are more liberal and have greater government involvement than Obamacare, so it's a non-starter for the people in control of all branches of the government right now.
Once again...Obamacare was originally a CONSERVATIVE plan back in the '90's from the Heritage Foundation, back before the entire Republican party went off the deep end.
Gonna be pretty much impossible to "move to the right" for a new plan w/o it being completely horrible.

Morally, both parties have ups and downs. Republicans just get a bad rap because their ideologies include a lot of unpleasant truths and favor those who are more self-reliant in comparison to the blind idealism and "everyone should help everyone no matter what" mantra of the Democrats. It's just easier to push the Democrat mantra because it sounds nicer. The truth is that without a major push to reform cultural behavior to encourage responsible behavior and self-reliance, the US is doomed to collapse under the weight of those who do nothing but take from society.

I've said it before though, all they need to do is remove the mandate and the whole dogshit Obamacare system will collapse.

I enjoy your dishonest use of the "poor Red states" meme, despite the proven fact that the groups that overwhelmingly vote Blue are the poorest and most welfare-reliant.

Using states as the method of presenting the facts is a deliberately misleading way to state the facts though. There are more welfare recipients in New York City alone than any red state. Also, in many red states, the largest amount of welfare recipients live in blue counties or cities, such as Atlanta, Memphis, New Orleans, Miami, Detroit, etc.

Also, does it not go without saying that the poorest people are the ones using the most welfare?

While this is true, a lot of this is largely symptomatic from the "blame everyone but the culprit" culture that is so prevalent in the US. The medical industry is a clusterfuck of bloated expenses resulting from bullshit lawsuits, insurance monopolies, deliberately unhealthy people constantly needing healthcare, drug R&D, etc.

The wages portion is almost worse because people love to spout off about an ambiguous living wage that always seems to include luxuries.

It's not hard to escape poverty if you live responsibly. I did it, I know tons of other people who have done it. It really is just a matter of living responsibly and working towards advancing your life.

Not really. I was talking more about governance and policies. Red policies apparently equal a poor state.

I don't really care what people get in welfare and what they think about it. I would assume that Democrats get more welfare because it'd take some crazy cognitive dissonance to be a Republican on welfare, but that really doesn't say anything about the effectiveness of the policies.
