Started Trails of Cold Steel II and yes, game, I know how to fucking use arts and open the map. I just spent 90 hours doing all of that and more so if you'd kindly stfu and get on with it?

Because many people don't end up playing the first game or people end up forgetting how mechanics work due to not being able to play the sequel immediately?

You would be surprised how many people skip the first game in a series and jump on with the second or third entry.

Yeah, that's completely fair and all. But I think it wouldn't be hard to include an option to skip tutorials if you're accustomed to the series.

Sequels should give 3 options for tutorials:

Full - I'm completely new to this series, give me all the tutorials.
Partial - I've played the previous games, just give me tutorials on what's new/different.
None - Skip all tutorials.

one of the strangest implementations of giving the player tutorials was in MGS2 during the Plant section.

I guess that there was a "meta" reason to it, but it could be frustrating how they broke up the flow of gameplay.

I started with Sky 1-3, finished Cold Steel the other day and now I'm starting up Cold Steel II. :3 Cold Steel III will be on Steam eventually, just very likely not at launch.

With modern games, it's easier to make a tutorial than to teach through design.

Egoraptor talked at length about MMX1 teaching through design but even though he claims it's a more complex game than classic (which it is), you still just jump and shoot. Now you can jump off of walls.

It wouldn't be feasible to use those same tactics in a game where you press toward the enemy and attack with proper timing to parry, or really good timing to counter. Which, ironically, that game didn't have a tutorial on that second part.

Cold Steel 3 is being put on PS4 because even in 2 it becomes pretty evident the Vita/PS3 hardware was holding it back.
