My wood elf rogue got into a drunken wrestling match with a minotaur at a pub with 50+ other drunk spectators. Had to roll a dexterity save-- natural 20 +7 acrobatics check WITH disadvantage (rolled double 20s... wtf are the chances of that, 1/400?)

Swung up onto his neck in a spiral motion, grabbed him by the horns, and toppled him over.

The dwarf in our game (also drunk) shouted "THAT STILL ONLY COUNTS AS ONE!"

Reference to what our dwarf shouted:

The majority of Gamefaqs posters are too young to be invested in tabletop games like MtG, Warhammer, or D&D. Instead they fall for garbage games like Arkham Horror

Sorry, your opening post just reminded me how much I loathe 5E.

Also, while the results of rolls will often be a factor in a memorable (good or bad) moment, the fact you got a really lucky roll just on its own shouldn't be something to get so hyped about. "I got a randomly very rare dice roll result! Best D&D session EV4R!"
It wasn't even like...a dire situation where the one lucky roll saved the day. Just really lame example, sorry.

And to the ones who are interested in D&D, "I got a nat 20 at a moderately unimportant time and some guy shouted a meme" is hardly a story.

To be fair, that's pretty much the motto of the Internet in general: "If I'm not happy no one else deserves to be happy either!"

Also to be fair, though, no one really came along to shit in his cornflakes until he was already annoyed by the fact that we didn't all rush into the topic to gush about how awesome his D&D moment was. And even then, it wasn't so much "Hey, let's make him miserable!" as much as it was "Hey, let's accurately point out that a lot of people on the board don't give a shit about D&D at all, and that the ones who do have probably heard way better stories about one-in-a-million awesome moments."

Personally, I just read the topic, shrugged, and moved on. But now I'm posting and helping add to the dogpile solely because of your post.

I actually understand this. A lot. 3.5 was my game but the local comic shop, where I've met my friends since moving, played 5e and it was just what kinda got the ball rolling for us. We kept it going.

What made it the best game ever was a combination of the what our dwarf yelled (who takes role playing to another level) and beyond that. I was on my phone and didn't really get to give that session its deserved glory when I elaborated. Everyone laughed at the LotR reference.

My heavily min-maxed half-Orc half-Horse all-Barbarian has a lot of wacky antics himself.

Like the time I ate a whole bunch of magical pies made from children. Why would I care if I eat human meat? I'm not human.
Anyway, the whole thing ended up with my character spending a night on some kind of insane LSD trip that allowed him to fully comprehend the nature of the universe, and woke up with a temporary bonus to INT (something along the lines of +10) and started speaking like an upper-class English gentleman for a while instead of just screaming and grunting.

Staying in character and sticking to the "chaotic neutral is my entire personality" angle has so far forced me to at some point injure every other member of the party (one of which I damn near murdered in a drunken rage because I couldn't see through her disguise).

The DnD crowd is generally pretty cool though.

I mean, your game is the exact opposite of what I play, but if it works for you, great I hope you have a lot of fun.

More serious with personality things going on. Normally a good amount of political intrigue.

One cool thing about 5e is inspiration. Is this factored into your conclusion that 5e sucks?

Wat, I actually like 5e. It's the most rules simple version of DnD yet. The less rules the better in my opinion. Like you gotta have them for some games, but it's pretty damn good.

I like D&D for the story telling aspect(s). 5e works great for me, personally. I understand wht people may not like it, though.

This is why nobody is giving you shit, people are surprisingly respectful on PotD about other DnD Editions. It's kinda crazy.

I like stories and games, so I usually need a good gamey system that I can cram a story in. Pathfinder has the complexity and choices I enjoy. *thumbs up*

Would love to give Pathfinders a try. Haven't had the audience to give it the respect it deserves, I'm afraid. It has a shit ton of books every time I go to the book store, though.
