it's called testing the loop before you turn on your PC.

if you didn't test the loop before you actually booted up, you're a moron.

liquids won't damage any of your components if they're off, if you do have a leak you can fix it and run it again until everything is copacetic.

No such thing as that when it comes to leaks. They'll mix with salts and dust in the air.

Distilled water also isn't 100% nonconductive. It is just very resistant.

Did you have to connect the pump and radiator manually? When I got mine they were already connected out of the box. All I needed to do was screw them in and connect power.

For the most part, every time there is a new generation of processors, you need a new motherboard to go with it. A few cpus reuse the same socket or motherboards will have small amounts of backwards compatibility, but if you change the cpu, you should change the motherboard as well.

That's the thing. The socket has no pins either. The cpu lays flat. The points of contact are flat on the surfaces, and the socket itself is perfectly sized.

AMD chips still use pins, however.

Then I don't know the issue. My motherboard reads '55' on startup, and looking into that it seems like a common memory issue that could occur when there's an error with RAM or if the socket pins are bent or something.

So since error code 55 is apparently "Memory Not Installed", I think the first step would be making sure the RAM is actually working and maybe try reseating it.

the modern gaming-quality Intel i-Series CPUs don't have pins. There are pins on the motherboard for other things like various different busses, but not for the CPU. all AMD processors use pins AFAIK.

I do think Intel still makes cpus with pins, but they're not something you'd put in a gaming PC.

1. You don't have to touch the doorknob, you can just touch the the chassis (any part with metal exposed is fine).

2. A static wristband is like one fucking dollar. Just buy one. Get the kind with a coiled wire clip because it's less likely to get tangled up than a regular straight wire.

Not my problem some idiot didn't remember the 3 R's of going deeper into a hobby: Research, Research, Research. If he did that, then he would have known to do a 24-hour leak test at a minimum before installing the water loop into the PC.

Even if you get help, i actually recommend the experienced builder forces the person to install the cpu. If they can do that scary shit, they can perform any other maintenance that will come around later.

Build two so far, and i don't even wanna fuck with water cooling. There are new mobo's that cand detect leaks and shut itself off before shorting, but not until that is a common thing should i even think about it.

Yep, there are pins on there. (at least on my socket).

EDIT:

LGA 2011, also called Socket R, is a CPU socket by Intel. Released on 14 November 2011, it replaces Intel's LGA 1366 (Socket B) and LGA 1567 in the performance and high-end desktop and server platforms. The socket has 2011 protruding pins that touch contact points on the underside of the processor.

LGA 2066 and 3647 are in the same configuration...pins on the motherboard socket.
