Simple question, simple answer.

While there are some that come close, definite yes from me.

It's definitely my favorite. I spent so many hours playing that game in the arcades and on SNES.

I haven't played any better ones, but I did miss a few classics like the SoR games and River City.

Double Dragon NES comes close (I'm probably the only one but I preferred it to all three arcade ones), and Batman Forever was p good tbh, but that's about it. Battletoads was honestly just too weird for my tastes, and Double Dragon/Battletoads for SNES just felt... off... in some way I can't explain.

beat 'me ups

lmao best typo ever.

In fairness, a lot of those old beat em ups were hard enough that the genre might as well have actually been called this.

Dragon's Crown
Odin Sphere
Double Dragon
Streets of Rage 2
Final Fight

I'd put those far ahead of TMNT IV, honestly. As well as some others I can picture, but can't remember the names of. To be fair though, to even be mentioned near those five means it's a pretty damn good game, just not the best.

Do you mean Batman Returns? Batman Forever was the Mortal Kombat rip-off side-scroll and it was awful.

Double Dragon Neon I think is a lot of fun, but there's something special about Turtles in Time. A lot of nostalgia, but there's also something magical there too, I dunno.

It was aight' for its time, but a good bit of beat'em ups made later on is better. Final fight 3 on the snes, alien vs predator in the arcades, dungeons and dragons, etc. (I love the beat'em ups where you get to do command moves in general).

I remember loving the shit out of The Simpsons when it was actually in the arcades but it's hard to go back to now. It just feels really simplistic compared to the other classic beat em ups that came out over the next few years after.

Also, and this is maybe just me, but there's something about TMNT that doesn't feel as solid as Final Fight or Streets of Rage. In those two the attack/injury animations and sound effects are done in a way that gives a lot more weight to every attack, while everything feels a little... I dunno, paper cut out, in TMNT. It's a minor gripe, yeah.

Dragon's crown? I thought it was way over priced and big let down. Yeah, i get that the game was going for old school style, but if you're giving as little content as games back then don't charge 40€.
