Like a comic book and a cartoon based on that comic. Did you understand that they weren't telling the story of the same character but were in different continuities or did you try to rationalize everything as a single universe?

Personally I tended to think of everything as one homogeneous universe when something was part of the same brand but different media, which often made reconciling them very hard to do, looking back.

I didn't really watch/read anything that had different continuities back then. I watched superhero cartoons, but I didn't read the comics.

I thought marvel and dc were the same universe for a long time.

The idea of separate continuities was easy enough to grasp, I watched more than enough cartoons that dealt with alternate realities (if only for a single episode) to be able to have a coherent concept of it.

I'm not sure how exposed I was to different continuities but I'm sure I recognized the notion of continuities. Canon is a slightly different idea, though. It kinda ties back to the idea of a prime continuity.

I didn't really have any exposure to different canons as a kid. The most glaring example, superheroes, is a genre I never got heavily invested in.

No it seriously confused me.

Superman titles at the time were all tied into each other.

Others like Spiderman, X-Men, Batman had different titles for the same characters. I could never figure out how 3 different stories involving that character could take place at the same time. Then it got even more confusing with crossover events.

There wasn't really much to confuse when I was a kid. I was born in the '80s, and stuff was either only existed in one form or lacked the substance for there to be problems... I didn't really get into comics or super hero stuff until about 1991, and managed to differentiate between comics and TV for stuff like X-Men when it came time...

That was another thing that generally confused me. I expected shows to have a story arch. So if I ever missed an episode I thought I would be lost on any plot developments from that point on.

Of course.

I wasn't an idiot.

Canon makes different types of cameras. Might go bankrupt soon if there is no more market for dedicated digital cameras.

no, I hated *every* little detail that was different. I still kind of do, but not at the same level.
