So, I haven't really been following video games all that much over the last few years (I've been using this site more for the sports message boards), and I honestly just recently found out that Nintendo actually released an official timeline for the Zelda games.

But, does anyone else question its legitimacy? I feel like Zelda games never had a timeline to begin with. There were too many of them released out of sequence, it's as if the "campfire story" theory was more "correct," and Nintendo more than likely threw together a timeline based off of the existing theories to appease fans of the series.

Pretty much. It still works but its not really a vital part of the story. It's like putting a timeline for the Mario games. In the end it doesn't effect the actual story it's just fun

I don't know where Breath of the Wild falls, but this was apparantly made official 5 or 6 years ago.

In the end, it just doesn't matter anyway.
Each Zelda is pretty much unique, and even the ones that claim to be direct sequels to others aren't really so.

They did.

ALttP was a prequel to the first two games.
Then OoT was a prequel to ALttP.
Then MM was a direct sequel.
Then TWW was another sequel.

etc.
