I'm still probably going to see it tomorrow. Imdb has it at a 6.8 so hopefully it'll at least be watchable.

I don't know anything about the source material, but trailers that I have seen didn't look good. Elba especially had some eye-rolling lines.

Man, it seems like there's enough crazy action to really make up for anything else to give it better reviews. So this is just disappointing.

Damn, most of it is probably a reaction to them dropping a lot of the source material. But was still hoping this'd be a good film. Fingers crossed it's just backlash and the movies good in its own right.

I liked the comment that McConaughey and Elba should have switched roles, because that's what I thought from the time they were announced. But it would probably be seen as racist to have a black guy as the "man in black" bad guy.

Too bad McConaughey sucks in this because I thought he would be great.

They announced early on that it wasn't supposed to mirror the books.

That being said, this from a review really got me upset at what could have been:

The Dark Tower should feel like The Fellowship of the Ring. A movie where you’ve become so engaged in the story that you’re surprised when the end of the movie suddenly cuts it off, and you immediately want to return to Middle-Earth and follow more of the main characters’ adventures. The Dark Tower doesn’t feel like that at all. It takes King’s massive, mind-bending ideas and whittles them down into a small pill. [...] It’s easy enough to swallow, but it has no effect on you, for good or ill.

Bummer. The director seemed to really care about the source material and has done some great work in the past. However I guess this is what happens when Akiva Goldsman writes your film... Sony seemed to be getting back on track, then they have The Emoji Movie then this back to back. Ouch.
