Kevin Conroy's voice is indeed better, but this reading particularly is lacking in emotion and presence.

It worked in Justice League because he was in contrast to many animated personalities, didn't work quite so much in Arkham because even though he was contrast to the Joker, the ultra-calm stoic approach doesn't fit a main character very well. Frankly, Ezio and Troy Baker outdid Arkham Conroy and Hammil. Nobody has ever been able to touch what they did in the 90's but that was a long time ago.

Finally someone here who doesn't worship Kevin Conroy. He sounded so boring in the Arkham games. No emotion. Such a Mary Sue sounding voice. He was great in the cartoons, but his voice in the games didn't work too well.

as much as that the super-gravel voice bale did anytime he was in costume made no sense in conversations

Yeah, I have a feeling it has to do with age, too. Kevin was able to do a really great Batman voice back then because at least he could convey emotion, but not so much now. The "overly-stoic" Batman voice is dull, and it's not like he was directed to do that outside the Arkham games.

That was actually pretty bad. I recognize that he probably didn't put much effort into it, but there's more to voice acting than just the timbre of a voice.

To be fair, they do mention in the video that it's a cold reading. It'd probably have been better if they did any kind of rehearsal or prep.

Or he could just do his normal voice, have people not recognize him as Bruce Wayne because it's a movie, and then he doesn't sound like a moron.

That's a stupid excuse. Nobody recognizes Clark Kent. It's a dumb superhero movie, nobody cares and his raspy voice is awful.

The funny thing is that even in the same movie they still do the "Batman disguises his voice" thing when Superman doesn't. (BvS) Although I like the digitized disguiser they used, to be fair.
