i dont think they expanded the sphere grid that much

they just got rid of cruel and merciless and increased the number of acts from 4 to 10

so yeah dive in

SRS or totem builds are good starter builds even though they are LAAAAAAAME

Did they actually add 2.5x the game content, or just break up the existing acts into smaller pieces?

Apparently I haven't played in quite a while. The character I logged into hadn't done act 4, though I have vague memories of having seen this comment, so maybe my other character had blown through it...or most of it.

Anyway, both my characters are around level 40. I never bothered trying to play above the first difficulty. It was more fun for me just to start a new character. But now I remember crap about the mechanics and I have to relearn the skill grid.

Finished act 4. Ranger is 47. I wonder if I would have enjoyed digging up the Scion more, but I was less certain what I was doing with her or how I would respec. Ranger is just spam Multi Arrow => win.

Got to a boss in act 5, he wasn't even the end of the act but it took me probably 70 or 80 deaths to kill him because everything he did one-shot me and he kept regenerating magic shield in the meanwhile. I'm....not nearly so enthusiastic about continuing at this point.

I get the impression I'm really supposed to find a party to do this.

I play the game a lot. Now is a fantastic time to jump in. The expansion is a huge boon to new players. Instead of repeating 4 acts 3 times, there's now 10 acts with a continuous storyline, with a smooth introduction into the end-game mapping system. In addition, they've added a sorely-needed help/tutorial thing ingame.

If you're new, you can either just jump in and just build how you want, or you can follow a guide on the official forums. It really depends on the kind of player you are.

The act 5 boss is a pretty large jump in difficulty, but it's definitely solo-able, the whole game is. I've been playing for about two years and I never party with anyone.

Well, I did eventually kill it. But it was one of the most frustrating experiences I've had in gaming in a really long time.
