Half Life 1-2 have great graphics and physics, but average shooting gameplay. Doom 3 wowed me much more than HL2 did when they came out. CounterStrike is the progenitor of microtransaction gambling that people despite in modern gaming. They never gave consoles a chance despite some decent Gen 6 & Gen 7 ports and Gabe won't shut the fuck up about how bad modern gaming is along the way despite the microtransaction fest.

Idk, I feel like they're untouchable because of Steam for some reason

Valve isn't really a developer anymore. They make most their money from their services like steam that they don't need to gamble of selling games.

Nah they're good. Half Life 2 was stellar back in 2004. Portal 2's narrative was very well executed. If you're gonna criticize Valve on anything, criticize the clumsy release of the Steam Machines and the bizarre lack of a D-pad on the Steam controller. Or all the shoddy Steam games Jim Sterling always bangs on about.

It's easy to forget just how much Steam's done for making PC gaming great again. Even ten years ago, it wasn't the norm for games to generally come with a PC version. If they did, PC versions usually came late, ran poorly, never had DLC released, sometimes even had insane DRM applied - just look up StarForce's DRM and all the problems that caused. PC was greatly seen as a giant piracy bay and a means to play MMOs, and that attitude's slowly gone away over the past decade. Whether you like Valve or not, you can't deny that Steam managed to make PC gaming as a whole much, much better.

It's also probably not even gonna be that revolutionary. The whole appeal of HL2 was how freaking far ahead of its time than other games were. But recent games have had a hard time being ahead of its time

Tbh, Valve should had made hl3 or episode 3, and made left for dead 3 or kept supporting l4d2. Game released in 2008, and is still played 9 years later. Sure, there is mods, but mods are not making money.

Half life series is ok shooter that ends in massive cliff hanger, which at least made me feel regret of playing ep2.
