A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he pushed his 31-year-old girlfriend onto the train tracks at Soka Station in Soka City, Saitama Prefecture.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday on the platform of the Tobu Isesaki Line, Fuji TV reported.

The suspect, Wataru Kaga, has admitted to the charge. He told police he and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument over her desire to end their relationship. He said he then lost his temper and pushed her into the tracks, but denied any intent to kill her.

The driver of an oncoming train managed to make an emergency stop before pulling into the station. The woman suffered an elbow injury in the fall.
