I guess the Alien from the ALIEN movies isn't an actual alien now.

I recently watched Alien: Covenant, hoping it would fix the storyline of Prometheus. It didn't... it just made the lore of the franchise even more confusing and dumb. The movies themselves are pretty to look at, but the storyline and the characters make my heart hurt.

I don't think it's as bad as what happened to Terminator with the release of Terminator 3. James Cameron is getting that franchise back so I hope his Terminator movie fixes everything, maybe disregard everything after Terminator 2.
Alien franchise was pissed on pretty bad with Alien 3. At least Prometheus was enjoyable. Haven't seen Covenant yet and only started Alien Isolation (Which is canon in the Alien universe).
I do love the alien monster as a character. Alien Xenomorph and Godzilla would be my all-time favorite movie monsters.
TC you need to play Alien Isolation if you haven't already, even if you didn't like the recent films.

I actually enjoyed Terminator Salvation and Genisys more than 3 (Rise of the Machines), even though Rise's ending was perfect. I'm very much in the minority, though. I thought Salvation was a fun romp.

Alien 3 and Resurrection were pretty mediocre, but at least they didn't invalidate the rest of the franchise.

Yeah.... it made the Alien backstory much more convoluted, to say the least.

It takes place after the first Alien movie and is canon. You play as Ellen Ripley's daughter.

I can tell Scott is trying to make the new films a philosophical viewpoint. It has very religious undertones as well. Why do that at the cost of the contunuity of the franchise, though? Whhhhhhy?

It is an alien... and it's been that way since the 80s...

Have you seen Covenant? Because they're just Genetically engineered from Humans now.

Not really. Technically, it was Aliens which killed the franchise because you couldn't take a lone Xenomorph as a threat after that. And Alien 3 was okay, other than the dodgy choice of killing characters off-screen.

They've always taken the genetic traits of their hosts.

Is this a reference to Resurrection, where when a face hugger got a dog, the Xeno ended up being more animalistic? Cuz I think Covenant basically ret conned that.

Very strange, yet interesting things.

Not so much, and some of the new plot holes are ridiculous. Sadly, the only way out of some of them is to declare nearly everything from the original series as non-canon, which kind of makes you wonder what the point of it all is.

Kind of. it's a new breed of species/alien. It's like you are telling me a dogs aren't animals, because they are just wolves that humans engineered.

I personally love both of the prequel movies. I think they get too much hate, and people are too critical of them. They are just movies, horror films usually have plot holes and people doing stupid things.

Sure, if wolves were fictional, and we got a prequel series set to explain the origin of wolves, and get shown some guy splashing mutating goo on a cat and a wasp to create something literally named the proto-wolf, which is nearly identical to the wolves we first see appear 20 years after this movie takes place.

^ excatly. i don't see it as a recon the alien spieces. It just tells you the origin story that they were created by A.I. Nothing has really changed.

They still take on traits of whoever they gestate in. Like the Predator-Alien in Predator vs Alien and the dog-alien in Alien 3.

Did you see the first Xenomorph that burst out of the captain's chest in Covenant? It was a tiny Xenomorph, and not the small wormlike like creature from all the other films that grows into a Xenomorph. Yet different than the thing that burst out of the Engineer's chest in Prometheus ( even though we share the same DNA, supposedly). How did the black goo turn into airborn spores? Was that from David tinkering with it? Why did it kill all the Engineer's when the humans who were exposed to it in Prometheus turned into these mutant looking juggernauts? The black goo/spores that killed all the Engineer's on their home planet then go on to make different types of Xeno's when the humans are exposed to it? Instead of just killing them? Since... you know... we share the same DNA.

Nothing makes sense and it doesn't seem to take on the traits through DNA, it seems the traits were taken from David trying to manipulate the black goo in different ways (though it's never explained how).

I have more questions about the ridiculous plot in these prequels but I'll leave it at that.
