I can't explain it. It's one of the most jarring and grating sounds I can think of

Lots of times I'll be watching something on YouTube, and the person speaking sounds super normal (sometimes I'm unaware they're even Canadian) but then the "-ou" comes out and I'm like "ugh"

I don't know why, but I pronounce "sorry" like a Canadian now. Soory. I've never even been to Canada so I don't know how it happened.

Every time someone makes this topic a bunch of Canadians come in and say they've never heard of this. I've spent a lot of time in western Canada, from Yukon to NWT to BC and AB... and EVERYONE does it.

Also a ton of people say "eh" all the time in the west

I think 1) it's less obvious in easterners and 2) Canadians can't hear their own accent

I'm in BC and never heard anyone around here pronounce it "aboot" unless it's a joke. Eh is rare but it happens. Mostly as a joke as well.

Canadian here. I've never heard "aboot" from someone who didn't come from Saskatchewan

unless you count like, Americans making fun of Canadians

"eh" is definitely a common thing though

Maybe you're imagining a different sound? Cause I'm not talking about "aboot", which I've only heard only South Park

This is what I'm referring to

why is everyone assuming that TC meant "aboot" and then just brushing it off as having never heard it before? of course you haven't heard something that no one says and that TC isn't claiming that anyone says. he never said they pronounce it "aboot". he's talking about the way they actually pronounce it, which is markedly different from the way most Americans pronounce it. that's an undeniable fact. what's so difficult to understand about that?

because aboot is a meme and CE is filled with memes

That's my fault. I wanted to reference south park so I quoted a line that used "aboot" and that kind of tainted the whole discussion. My bad.
