MGS1 and 2 are amazing. OoT's story isn't intricate but it's classic fairytale, it's amazing. Some of the FF games reach into great storytelling.

Most of it is garbage trash written by garbage trash tho.

If we rule out RPGS and TRPGs ya.

OoT works because it's so damn simple

It's when video games try to tell intricate stories that everything falls apart.

Even for all it's great atmosphere and style, the MGS story as a whole is a complete mess and pretty shoddily written.

How was Nihilistic: Automata's story good? It had some moments and interesting characters but everybody dies and nothing matters is hardly a good story to me

even less so machines developing an ability to think. I don't know why this meme is spammed throughout media and why people gobble it up like it's interesting

That's mostly because MGS and MGS3 had simple stories.

MGS2, even for all it's "deep" themes, wasn't THAT complex until the ending. Then you had MGS4, Peace Walker and MGS V which just went off the rails and made everything worse with it's dumb retcons.

But pretty much every MGS suffered from situations and twists that made no sense in the long run, though. Kojima isn't really that good of a writer.

Tbh I was expecting something like a higher budget version of the stuff done in Undertale because of all the hype of Nier Automata's ending was getting so I was a bit let down in that way. Still good though.

I thought Gears of War was pretty repetitive andcboring. But I played the first three games strictly to see the story play out. And I'll probably play 4 when I finally get a Xbox1.

Can't think of story driving me in any other game series that I would have otherwise abandoned.
