I feel like more and more people are cutting their ties from here and not in a typically good way. Crimson closed her account. Lan's been AWOL. We've had far too many closer members pass away recent-ish. I dunno. What's going on with this place?

I feel like most of the people I tend to have a rather cool connection with is leaving.

Crimson has made suicidal-related posts before. Lan kind of always had me in question. Then we've lot Mith, P2E and Hamstein not too long ago.

It's like this place welcomes misery and depression. I just hope others here are doing fine.

I can't even bother to post in my own general I made, which is sad, but it shows how terrible this board is.
I really hate everyone here for what they've done to this board. When I started back in 2010 it was ok, still bad but ok. Now it's unbearable.
I spend more time on Reddit. I just mostly browse anyways but it's much better than here.

I honestly have been taking breaks sporadically. I feel like this place has become infested with trolls of both sides of the political spectrum. People just turn everything into a circle jerk about their own personal philosophy and insult anyone who says otherwise. I used to come here for cool news stories and random lighthearted chats. I keep coming back because it's pretty much the only way for me to have any sort of social interaction when I can't sleep at night.

That being said, if I stopped coming, I don't think anyone would really notice. I'm not a well known user and I don't really have a cool gimmick or sig pic that makes me notable.

Its because some people make 2-3 friends here, everything is nice, shiny and pink for a while because the nice social interaction and connection they have, then the glasses come off and they're brought back into the harsh reality of the cesspool that is this board as a whole is.

People trolling about people that have died or people close to them that have died, people entertaining creepy users that are probably more than just a gimmick and really fucked up beings IRL, people goading users with clear mental issues, and people that enable people with mental issues... this place is literal cancer.

I've been coming here for 15 years, and still quite enjoy it. I'm here almost daily.

The boards definitely aren't as good as they used to be, though. I think the best times were 2002 - 2004, and 2007 - 2009. Things were very good, then. The earlier period was probably the best, with the sheer number of personalities, and how memorable people were, and how the sense of community was. The later period was good because of all the drama, especially wrt the girls and all the trouble they caused. The boards these days...there aren't enough personalities at all, and there's not much a sense of community. I don't mind people arguing with each other too much, because it's leads to drama which is fun, but the trolling is probably the worst it's ever been. The trolling isn't even GOOD. It's just people mindlessly attacking people they don't like, usually in probably the second topic of a post. But like I said, the boards are still quite good, with some interesting conversations, and some of the posters are good.

Now you're getting the spirit of CE! I'm not kidding, either. Your last paragraph is exactly what this board has always been. I posted about my dog dying when I was 19 and people laughed and photoshopped pictures of him.

My best friend killed himself when I was almost 20 and someone asked me if I wanted to play hangman (the letters game) as a joke.

This place has never really been about tight nit community and just like minded people getting together to talk.
