i'd take it seriously
put everyone in the pacific on high alert, posture some aircraft carriers and jets, heavy bombers

constantly communicating with south korean command, have the news outlets in korea report the increased tension, people on their toes and ready to evacuate at a moments notice (They'll still die in the ensuing firestorm)

pray to fucking god they don't actually let a nuke loose and be ready to unleash hell on them if they do

i want north korea to know that we're ready to wipe them off the planet if they try anything

but then again i'm no politician, diplomat, or military strategist so all of this is just fantasy land

It would be better for everyone for the regime to implode because Kim's advisors are convinced the only way to save their own lives is to throw him under the bus. However you make that happen.

They're acting up way more than previously. Idk. I'm usually an isolationist on issues like that. You might need to just bomb their capital. Idk. I'm not qualified.

And even if you don't think Trump is he at least has the information available to him. I don't have classified info. If I did I'd be in jail. Unlike hill dog.

Saber rattle, send in carriers, work behind the scenes with China, if they don't come to heel, naval blockade on NK. If they do, the plan for an attack on NK. If it escalates, I absolutely stand behind MAD as a policy. Stay conventional until NK does something stupid.

Not sure what options are available regarding China at this point. I wouldn't make a military move without SK's blessing. Seoul is the city that would be at risk if Kim wants to take millions down with him, so it's not our place to make a military decision for them.

I don't know how long a war with NK would last, but I think Seoul would be their first target just because we can't realistically prevent some degree of carnage there. NK would be taking a chance if they targeted Guam or Japan first.

I dunno. Looks like the only way out is for KJU to be bluffing.

MAD got us out of the Cold War because everyone was sensible. KJU is kind of an unknown. Unfortuntely, MAD makes it impossible to tell whether any sort of nuclear preparations are intended for offense or deterrence.

I suppose ideally there would be antimissile defenses but the few bits of info I've heard about them don't look promising.

AT this point, I'd basically stick to sanctions and pressuring China until SK attacks or expand their aim to mainland America since apparently being in stricking distance of Us territories and Hawaii isn't a good enough reason. If they get any closer, war, regardless of public perception of how I'm handling it. China is not going to nuke us over SK.

Trump might have the mindset that somebody has to deal with NK someday, so it might as well be him. If this regime is still around in 70 years, they may be able to point to a random city on the globe and wipe it out. I don't think they would do that now even if they could because I don't think they are crazy (just sociopaths who want to keep NK as their personal playground). But that doesn't mean none of the future Kims will be crazy.

I think the window of opportunity for military action closed years ago. I don't know how you justify a military strike that puts millions of lives in Seoul and possibly Tokyo at risk.

of course
but im saying
think about what you can utilize

and always remember no plan survives first contact with the enemy, so it's important to have contingencies set up in case something goes awry, right?

we know for sure that north korea will attempt an all-out damage attempt, destroying as many military and high-density civilian populations as possible

if they can they will aim for japan

I suppose one idea would be to actully mount a deterrent force of conventional weaponry instead of Nuclear. Then our main source of hesitancy in retaliation (hitting SK with the fallout) would be removed from the equation. It could still be an effective deterrent to nuclear strike if it were enough to ensure total destruction.

No matter how fast we hit there's going to be significant damage, and they're likely to be prepared to launch the nuclear missile at any point, from anywhere (if they have it, we won't know where it is)

it's one chance but i mean... barring an actual black ops operation into one of the most heavily surveiled ares of the world, killing the government, several military leaders, disabling military installations and a full on siege by the US military...

i mean, if we're prepared at all for a violent solution... diplomacy usually figures these things out

Sure. And they would love to nuke Japan. They hate the Japanese far more than they hate South Koreans.
