Oh please, you liberals would be okay with this, too if it were your guy in charge. I specifically remember you traitors wishing Obama had a third term instead of having to pick between Clinton and Trump. See, this is why Trump won, the hypocritical left refuses to own up to their own shit.

That was mostly facetious rhetoric based off of the horrible picks. But if Obama was re-elected for a third term through a democratic process I wouldn't see an issue. Postponing the election isn't the same.

My post on Reddit about this:

This is so dangerous how heavily they accept anything this guy would do. This is what people in * or the * would do. They blindly would follow their leader and didn't care about what would happen under his rule. This really, really needs to stop. I thought this was America. Open your damn eyes people. The Constitution is far, far more important to the life of this nation and always has more so than the person leading us. If you put the person before the rules of the land, your priorities are screwed up and you are the problem all these other nations are and have faced.

Yeah, no. Certain people spent 8 years calling Obama a dictator, and those same people support this. And that's beyond the point that a third elected term is nothing like a postponed election. Traitor.

People said that they would rather Obama run for a third term so they could vote for him over Clinton and Trump, not that they wanted him to just postpone the election altogether so he could keep being president.

Also while it's alarming that supposedly half the Republicans would be on board for this, that ultimately means nothing since the other half of Republicans and presumably all the Democrats would be against it. Not to mention all the other constitution things that would stop it from happening.

You do realize term limits weren't a thing longer than they have been. It's not even remotely the same as postponing elections to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Also saying "You would do x if the situation was reversed" is a terrible argument, as it's based on nothing.

Right. I'm not at all convinced that they could pull this off, but the fact that they want to reveals them for what they really are. Traitors.

@CrimsonRage

If there was undeniable proof of substantial voter fraud (even a few million) then yes I'd support it providing the proper channels allowed it as well.

We can't have fair elections if there is voter fraud.

There are some threats to internal validity with this method, the largest one being that online survey takers that are Republicans may not accurately represent your average Republican in the U.S. Almost 80% of U.S. adults are online, however. So, I don't know.

I don't think the methodology implies response bias as an issue

@justaguy3492 statistical analysis has long demonstrated that population size 1000 is the gold standard for representative sampling

the population size of this survey was ~1300 so it meets that requirement

I think it does to a degree. I would think that online-survey takers probably have different characteristics, maybe even different beliefs, than non-online-survey takers

the important key is how they were recruited

if people were randomly requested to take a survey you're not going to have response bias, even though only those who agreed to participate can be included, because this is always a problem. you control for "people who would participate in a study" by increasing population size. at p=1000 this issue is mitigated

if a survey is put up and anyone can answer and you just pick 1000 answers randomly, that's when you have response bias because those people were motivated to answer without being asked

I think it does to a degree. I would think that online-survey takers probably have different characteristics, maybe even different beliefs, than non-online-survey takers. Also, I would want to know what URL the survey was on (did they takers know this was WaPo?).

Could be wrong, but I was taught in Research Methods that it's hard to avoid bias in surveys like this.

Online surveys can still be good data if done right. Plus you can still do random sampling with online surveys so there might not be a link to the survey as it was sent to people registered as republican randomly.
