I thought it was going to be this: https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/support-ublock-origin/6746/451

Firefox FTW.

Also, that Instart Logic thing that was mentioned: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instart_Logic

The company also offers an ad-blocker circumvention service that replaces advertisement URLs with different URLs, which are subsequently translated by Instart Logic's servers, so that ad blockers cannot filter them.

Noscript is superior to ad blocking in the same sense that you can prevent yourself from seeing ads by gouging out your eyes

If you don't want to see anything then yeah Noscript is superior...

But anyways on topic, is this even legal? also is anything stopping the easylist people from "suggesting" sites to manually add to the filter list in case it is actually illegal for them to add the sites to the filter lists?

The easylist guys have a good point:
If it is a Circumvention/Adblock-Warning adhost, it should be removed from Easylist even without the need for a DMCA request.

Blocking the anti-adblock naggers is for another list.
https://reek.github.io/anti-adblock-killer/

The endgame here, is that adblocking itself will be declared "circumvention". There's an emerging trend of blocking the requested content until the adservers all return an "ok", which a clever lawyer could easily re-label as "access control".

So does that mean that even if they don't provide a direct way for people to block anti-adblockers, they're still responsible if people use their platforms to do so?

I didn't use an ad blocker, until I noticed my browser had one built in. Most pages load up at least 10 times faster with it on.

Adblock/Adblock Plus sold out. They allow companies to pay them to whitelist certain ads. That's why uBlock and uBlock Origin are better.

There's always hope for perceptual ad blocking, although I haven't really heard anything new about it since reading about it several months ago.

Exactly.

Now, if websites want to / need to start charging a subscription fee, then they can do so. Trying to ban / circumvent adblockers through nefarious means though? They can fuck off.

In a way, ad companies have brought this on themselves with all the intrusive ads, tracking, malware, etc. and the massively inflated page sizes that eat up your bandwidth. You'd have to be crazy not to use an ad blocker these days tbqh.

ISPs too, with shit like: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/03/five-ways-cybersecurity-will-suffer-if-congress-repeals-fcc-privacy-rules

Just because you're an advertiser doesn't give you the right to assault my senses when I just want to read a fucking article so Ad blocking software will never be stopped. They should adapt and maybe take a look at themselves and ask why people need to block their bullshit.
