So I know tons of people were excited for Timothy when he came out, but I'm kind of struggling to figure out why I'd use him for anything other than his TMR. His breaks are pretty potent and cheap, but they only target a single stat. Meanwhile I've got WoL and 9S that, while more expensive, provide similar breaks that hit two stats at once, which seems a lot more useful to me. Plus 9S has much better survivability, damage mitigation, and his LB provides only slightly weaker breaks than Timothy's. I actually feel kind of silly for upping a 9S to 5* before raising his LB; I may just keep that one up for missions, and raise up another one after I give him plenty of LB pots.

Seriously, is there any reason to use Timothy when we now have 9S? I get that Tim was a 3* base, 5* max, so he's not really going to be as good as a 4*, but everyone seemed to adore him as a breaker when he came out, and I just don't see him doing a great job when his breaks are single-stat and his survivability is crap.

I dare you to use 9S' Purge Attack on Dark Ifrit. :D

Or any boss like him.

Mistair does stick out as a 4* you gotta get, but man, my list of priority pulls seems to include a lot of bad units.

Also not sure if I should be focusing on awakening units during this period or staying the course with TMR farming.

I figure Cactuars are difficult enough to get outside of the Dunes showing up that it's worth putting off TMR farming for a few days. Granted this is probably more my situation, but I'm going to find getting several 6* units for Expeditions far more valuable than a few extra percentage points on TMRs. As soon as I clear out the Ariana stuff on Monday, I'm going to have several days of nothing but TMR farming and Raid anyway, so I might as well break the monotony with getting to see a few units hit 6*.

Okay, this is the best argument yet, and I can see that 9S breaks are both somewhat boss dependent, and a bit outside the norm by splitting between magical and physical instead of attack and defense. Still, I feel like 9S is the overall better package, as 50% breaks are still good no matter how you slice it, the added survivability is pretty important, and there's a lot of value in being able to break ATK/DEF in one go if you don't have any magic-based damage on your team. I see a lot more physical bosses than magical ones (limited experience talking, but still), and ATK/DEF breaks in one allow him to do other things for two turns.

So far I've gotten Amelia and Marie to 6*, Sakura and 9S to 5*, and upped a 5* Snow and Vaan enough to be useful for Expeditions. I'll probably up the rest of the story characters so I can do the trials for equipment, and then Victoria and some more mages for better Expedition coverage. I've got 50 NRG pots, and a good chunk of that is from the Mythril Chest, so I'm thinking of burning through some just on Cactuars.

Speaking of trials, I hear Enhanced Marie makes Echidna pretty easy. Is that likely easy enough that I can go in without a fully TMR'ed team, or will I still be fairly hampered if my team isn't fully geared up? I am unfortunately lacking a Ribbon, Discernement, or Goddess' Protection (don't even have a Kefka yet, though I do have two Seven), so it may be a while yet, but I wanted to check.

Have enough spr and hp. Plus the provoker should have Genji Shield or Safety Bit.

You can still be a victim to charm despite enhanced Marie if the wrong one is selected.


Seems like running 2 Victoria on repeat with Overflow works for chains so far.
Only ones not dieing are spr-heavy units and the ones with Diabolos.

Can Marie help with that? I found I had a lot more survivablity with her in my team, since she can keep 50% dark resist with healing for 5 turns, and also do elemental immunity. Thinking of putting a pod on her if I can work it in since she has a bunch of free turns if you're not trying to reflect aja spells.

If you need my Marie and she's not up, just let me know!

What type of banner is Mistair on? Hoping its King Mog since I always do a 10+1 to start those.

Yeah, unfortunately after Nier, I can't afford to do any form of Rare Summoning for a few months. So regardless of who is released, I won't be doing Dailies, 10+1s, or Summon Tickets until probably after the New Year.

I was at 7500 Lapis and 150 Tickets before Nier, and I'm now down to 1500 Lapis and 0 Tickets. Been using every ticket and the 10+1, and even spent 5k Lapis on the banner itself, so I just can't afford to drop anything for a while until I get myself padded back up again. And considering I am almost completely out of Story Missions to do, the Lapis isn't going to be flowing in so quickly for me anymore.

So chances are I'll be missing out on Mistair or whatever else might be a big deal for the next few months.

And quite honestly, I have the tools in my box at the moment to let me ask a friend to loan me one if absolutely necessary. I mean sure, I'll pull for them, but as I learned in P&D, chasing the 'necessary' unit for clearing content usually winds up with power-creep making up for it in a few months anyway. Sure, I can see that being a bit more difficult here with how specialized units can be, but at the same time this game as already been out a year, and power-creep has made a lot of the early trials soloable with the right units. Will that apply to every trial? Hell no, something like Malboro or Aigaion will probably always be difficult, but the difficulty will likely be tamed by a fair amount as better and better units get released.

So while I'll pull for the next needed units, if they're so in demand, I fully expect to be able to ask politely for someone to put one up for me, because I know someone, somewhere out there, will have pulled them.

Edit: And Krile for the daily. Bleah.

That's one of the strengths with the game, providing you can compensate with what you lose out on relying on a Mistair-buddy. (Bard, mana battery, buff, chaining partner. Strong mage like with Bloody Moon trial where you can't use physical attacks, nor black magic.)

It's a mix since you will see more and more that focused roles will be more important so you don't want to divide tasks too much. (Plus if you look, the big units we are using now are still not obsolete in a year unlike our Barrage-meta despite they added more strong units.)


Difficult battles can get more rounded as we get more key units. But that doesn't mean it will make them easier as much as manageable without relying on rng not screwing you or turtling. (Iron Giant being an oddity even up to Ramuh *3)


Keep in mind I am not asking to build a war chest for say Basch *5. (3 Turn 75% Chance to Defend Allies from Magic/Physical Damage (Reduce +50% Phys./+70% Mag. Damage, inter- changeable on two abilities)

Just don't burn a ton of resources on something really shiny you will trade away a month later, or pull at some point and complain later you didn't get these when they provide the tools to deal with that pesky SPR/HP-issue most units will suffer from.


This of course is based on Gumi not pushing us through a ton of magic heavy content before releasing Crowe(Fairly soon before Ayaka) and Mistair.(A few months)


Soloing as an art is dead starting with Aigaion until JP starts to get game mechanics breaking units that defy BFR and Left Arm while punching them in the face at the same time.

And maybe I'm overestimating my box, a definite possibility. Right now, I have a ton of meta units sitting pretty and ready to be used. Tidus, Orlandeau, and Aileen for chaining as their enhancements come out, plus Agrias or two Victoria to be able to chain with my own units. WoL as a tank. My support library consists of Zarg, Tilith, Rikku, 9S, Soleil, and Marie. I can slot in Ashe, Timothy, or a couple of other units as needed. Nearly all of the big units people have talked about since I've started, I've got, and yet the community is constantly moving on to the next big shiny within a couple weeks.

That's part of why I'm now getting a bit worried. Despite everyone saying these units I have are future-proof, the feeling I get is that there's always one more thing that's a necessity. P&D did it too of course, but the feeling was that even if you didn't have the latest Godfest exclusive, you could still clear content. Hell, Ronia defined the meta long after she should have, being so potent a unit that even the hardest new content could be covered with her. And she wasn't alone in that situation either. But as desirable as she was as a unit, there were always so many other options that it never felt like a situation of "I must have this unit to clear the latest Descended dungeon."

So I take anything the community says about needing certain units with a grain of salt. Do they make the content significantly easier? Sure. Is the content ludicrously difficult without them? Usually not so much that it can't be tackled eventually. Everyone talks about how Tilith makes Aigaion much easier, but there's plenty of evidence that she's not needed; it just makes the trial more difficult. Malboro is an exception, and honestly, I think the trial is overtuned. Even super whales have problems with the trial. So if there's content that is so difficult that I absolutely need to have a specific unit to beat it, I consider it either so new that people haven't figured out the trick, or the content is just too difficult for the average player to beat. In either case, I'm not going to stress over it, because I can happily wait until something I need randomly drops in my lap, or power creep catches up.

But again, this could be overconfidence in my box talking. :P

You have the staples in your box, but not all tools as you will see when Bloody Moon arrives. (Malboro as is should have been somewhere around ice crane/reindeer so we had access to more reliable tools for the task.)


Here comes the other side of the game; Party composition matters a lot so you can make due with some stuff, but you are not guaranteed to win if your current tool box is a bit lacking in some fashion. (This we will also see once 10-man challenges arrive where you can't use copies.)

So some units you can replace with someone sharing a similar role.(WoL/VoE/Charlotte *6, Refia/Y'shtola/Aria/Fina/Dagger, etc)

Mistair however is unfortunately unique outside of Basch when it comes to dealing with aoe magic.

Generally you should be able to handle content, sans Gumi gumies, but if it is magic heavy you might need to look over your SPR-capacity.


For most enhanced Ramza/Tilith/Roselia *6 /along with enhanced Soleil would stabilize your encounter with Aigaion instead of turning into a death fest if anything goes too wrong. (Ayaka would turn it into Curada+reraise the goat.)

Add to that mana battery and dps that fits what you have at hand without turning it into several hours of work.

Edit: Which reminds me; Wind Veritas carries something your Eileen wants so you don't forget it when he arrives in the following weeks. >_>

I don't believe so, since a very very good tank is required. Not sure if Charlotte qualifies as waifu (or what the requirements to be a waifu are), but WoL doesn't even cut it here. Most of the clears I've found so far used Wilhelm. Post enhancements WoL should have more luck though, but I doubt he's in the waifu group.

But the reward was lessened as you failed iirc.

Edit:

During the INT maze the first 2 wrong choices you make warps you to the beginning of the same floor, while the third incorrect door warps you to the exit.

Upon completing the maze on INT without a single mistake, a moogle appears on the final floor with the forked paths. Speaking to it prompts you to proceed to a special goal, which will send you to an exit room where the final fight may consist of minitaur(3), a metal gigantaur, and a burst pot.

Even if it is not relevant at this point. Keep in mind there might a patch that wrecks the magnification/emulation chain trick in the future.

I had twice as many Beastlord Moogles as any other Moogle, topped only by Adam and 21O for TMR quantities. Luckily got my A2 yesterday so they wouldn't go to waste.

I've finished Beastlord, and I 'should' be able to finish Pod 153, Resentment, and Virtuous Contract before the end of the Raid though since all are at or around 70% finished, and I'll still have two more 9Ss and a 2B to work on, so I could get started on second copies of those.

I used 110,000 raid coins yesterday, and got 15% for Pod 153. Beastlord and Venomous Contract though, was sitting at about 80% each. Can't stop getting the 5* TMRs. I just sell those right away though, because I'm not getting either of the banner rainbows. If tempting fate works like it did with Fry, great, if it doesn't no big.

I've completed on Pod, one Mechanical Heart (though a good chunk of that was fusing dupes), and that's it. I'm nowhere close to finishing a Resentment, and my second of the others are really lagging. I don't even want to count the 5* moogles...

I actually got the special finish for the Enchanted Maze INT. At least 50% of the time, the game has me fail on the first floor twice and then I walk away with 2 Gigantuar and a King Gil Snapper only.
