The whole idea of high resolution mapping is cool, and in certain cases really necessary, but I think that there's too much focus on increases of technology without need, tbh. It also is becoming the face of neuroscience, which is a bit sad because it almost feels like hypothesis driven work is going "out of style". This is, of course, an exaggerated viewpoint, but still.

Anyway, excited to see society funding large scale initiatives for brain science, even if our current funding system is broken.

Op you're so wrong if you believe this will take place of hypothesis driven research.

This actually does the opposite of that.
Now more theories can be tested and analyzed than before.

The problem with neuroscience research is that untill the last decade, the technology wasn't available to test these hypotheses so it remained just that till the technology became available.

Planned obsolescence is the word you are looking for here. This will increase the efficiency of the field, likely reducing the number of open positions. You might want to get in on the ground floor and open up a collaboration.

Naw, large scale imaging is going down the same route as the human genome project.

The real failure of the HCP database is a key indicator. Ramped up imaging parameters and collected hours of 1200 subject's pure garbage. But it was a flashy grant so they got the money to pay for it.
