Always burn your dread. Other than that, any tips would require a base understanding of game mechanics. Play through the tutorial bits first, then ask for tips.

push social links instead of stats (like courage/intelligence etc). i wasted so much free time at the arcade and ended up finishing the game with like three complete SLs. Made the ending pretty lame.

I found it annoying that they seemed to have a super secret hidden stash of shit healing items, with no way to get them to use better ones.

Other than that though, they generally do a fine job, you just need to stay on top of adjusting their tactics.

In a weird way it made the characters seem deeper. Maybe because I as the player couldn't take credit for when they pulled off something clutch.

I agree. I actually enjoyed it, and makes them seem more like teammates. But I think it would be hard to go back to after playing 4 and 5 after, personally.
